Quote from: neurosis on December 21, 2023, 08:00 AMI'll buy that. As long as there is NO proof that the goal was to prevent the certification of the election. If that was provably the goal, then I'd call it something more than a riot.

protestors break into Senate and congressional hearings and votes ALL the time. Just recently to disrupt a vote on aid to Israel, but also the Kavanaugh hearings, the budget hearings, they are protesting things that they disagree with. These clowns disagreed with the certification of the election. the protest was significantly bigger scale than some of the other protests. I concede that. But I have been saying for a long time that media outlets have generally looked at these left wing protests with some degree of honor. And it was just a matter of time before right wing groups, fed up with this decided to turn the tables. I said it over and over through out 2020. Rightwing groups are going to see that these riots are striking fear into elected officials and use the same tactic. And they did. And then the media discovered the word insurrection. A word that nobody used when the burned police stations to the ground, or held federal officials hostage in a federal courthouse, or took custody of several city blocks of Seattle.

And not ONE for insurrection.

Do people jump through the same hoops to rationalize things when it's the other side doing them?

Hilarious having Smit thumb up a post that exactly describes himself.

Quote from: neurosis on December 21, 2023, 07:58 AMWhat would you call if it Democrats would have done it when Trump was in office?

Since Trump was in office and Pelosi's lacky Demonrtats in the capitol police and national guard purposely didn't didn't show up or respond for lengths of time and for all we know there were more FBI than MAGA in the crowd.....

 Obviously

you call it a setup.

Quote from: Jeff on December 21, 2023, 07:47 AMDid they though?
Or were they seeking shelter from being pelted with tear gas and rubber bullets WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE "RIOT".
The crowd was calm until that happened.

There was a guy named Ethan Nordean who admitted to his plan to breach the Capitol and did.

Ethan lives in the same town I do. I go to his parents restaurant for dinner occasionally. His parents knew what he was up to and disapproved, although I think they disapproved publicly because it was hurting their business.

Ethan has been a known white nationalist activist for years and it brought bad publicity to his parents business.

Ethan, and his little group, went there for a purpose and it wasn't to dodge tear gas or rubber bullets.

you tell me?
https://www.npr.org/2020/06/12/876293196/protesters-in-seattle-take-over-6-block-area-announce-an-autonomous-zone

QuoteMARY LOUISE KELLY, HOST:

In Seattle, hundreds of activists are occupying in an area they are calling an autonomous zone. It's part of the nationwide protests against police brutality towards African Americans. The zone surrounds a police precinct vacated days ago. Casey Martin of member station KUOW reports that a few city blocks symbolize patriotic protest for some and lawlessness for others.

CASEY MARTIN, BYLINE: This time last week, Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood was filled with tear gas and exploding flash-bang grenades. After days of standoffs with protesters, Seattle police were pulled out of the East Precinct building. In their absence, people have claimed a six-block area they're calling the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, or CHAZ.

(SOUNDBITE OF MUSIC)

MARTIN: There's a free food co-op, stations of volunteer medics and music around the clock. Every available surface, including the street, is covered with art. Capitol Hill has seen protests before. It was one of the major sites of the WTO protests two decades ago.

BERIA HEYMAN: All I've seen is kindness. People are giving people water, making sure people are OK. Like, it's really peaceful, and it's just a beautiful thing. If anything, I've been very inspired.

Ya know, the difference is you go out and find stuff to rationalize your arguments with.

The stuff Neuro is talking about is happening here in this little forum. :)

That was sarcasm. I have no idea how big their group was. I'm sure you've heard of them though.

That proves the point I was trying to make. It wasn't directed at one side.

Both sides are guilty of it and they both make themselves look bad when they do it.

To frame the question a different way, would you, as a conservative, jump through hoops to rationalize the chop zone in the same way you do the Jan 6th "riot".

that's a silly question. They were totally different

one was an establishment supported and bona fide insurrection aimed at fulfilling a prophecy of 'fascism' on the other side, which failed.
The other was establishment supported authoritarian takeover of a constitutional process, and subsequent authoritarian weponization of gov't notably against those with the wrong political opinions.
