QuoteSenate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) is stepping down from his leadership post in November, ending his history-setting tenure as longest serving Senate party leader.

McConnell, who turned 82 this month, is announcing the decision in a speech on the Senate floor.

The news was first reported by The Associated Press, which obtained a copy of his prepared remarks.

"One of life's most underappreciated talents is to know when it's time to move on to life's next chapter," McConnell said in prepared remarks obtained by the AP. "So I stand before you today ... to say that this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate."

McConnell said he plans to serve out the remainder of his term as a senator, which ends in January 2027.

No way he he lives long enough to serve out his term. That guy looks like death already... damn near as bad as DiFi did before she departed this life.

Well I'd say he missed that mark by a decade.
He should just step down now, he's useless and has been for a long time.

Kentuckians should be ashamed of themselves for sending such a turd to the US Senate for so long. Seriously.

I suspect should Trump win and not be assasinated before taking office, he is gonna make the remainder of Cocaine Mitch's political life a living hell... because he deserves it. :coffee:

The problem there is once a guy like McConnell gets in, they can keep themselves from getting primaried. So you have to vote for a Republican you don't care for or a Democrat that goes against everything you stand for. I felt that way about Roy Blunt for a long time.

Voting for Cocaine Mitch was a tactical win but a strategic loss.

It factually resulted in losing the very war you were trying to avoid by not voting for the the "Republican you don't care for" in the first place.

These a-hole politicians are playing a LONG game and we're playing the 24hour news cycle if we're lucky. I swear Republican voters are the stupidest political critters to walk the earth. My goodness. No strategic game whasoever in them. It breaks my heart.

Not anyone doing a mission critical job that's for sure.

I know of a few people in their 80's that "work", but that is mostly for their enjoyment and to maintain activity. It's important to them but like I said, not a mission critical position by a long shot.

As evidenced by the new SCOTUS picks constantly siding with the libs. McConnel pushed quasi conservative, big business friendly, globalist SCOTUS picks on Trump.
