Good.

If the FBI was looking at your kid a year ago and you allowed him access to a weapon, you should be held responsible.

I agree!

From what I read the father bought him the AR 15 style rifle in December 2023. They were questioned in May 2023   That means he bought him the gun AFTER the FBI questioned them. How stupid!!!

Damn. I was wondering if that would be a popular opinion.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

This is at least second case where parents are charged. Just so preventable.

Gun owners in Georgia are not legally required to lock up firearms away from children?

I wouldn't have believed that any state didn't require that.

What to know about gun laws in Georgia after the Apalachee High School shooting

QuotePermits and background checks are not required in order to purchase firearms in Georgia, including assault weapons.

Gun owners in Georgia are also not legally required to lock up or otherwise securely store firearms away from children.

Gun owners are responsible for securing their weapons where no one under 21 can access them without their direct supervision. That's how I feel anyways.

How would you enforce such a law?

If there were such a law in place in Georgia, I doubt it's likely this POS's dad would have followed it, given his utter disregard for common fuckin sense. I mean, the FBI shows up and says your kid is threatening to kill classmates in May and you buy him an AR in December.

Sadly, there is no way to know such a law is violated until after something bad happens. Then it's just another incidental charge tacked onto the much more serious ones he's facing.

My guns, except the one I carry, are all locked in a safe. My kids knew the combo somewhere around age 16-18. I was comfortable accepting responsibility for this because I knew neither of them was fucked in the head. I judged the chances of them doing something dumb or heinous to be infinitesimally small. The chances of them needing to access a gun, while also small, I judged to greater.

Allowing minor children to access firearms is like owning a pitbull, it's your decision to make, but if shit goes south, you are responsible for the whatever damage is done.

'they' will bar media from promoting school shootings exclusively with a blackout period of 9 months prior to elections.
It's a rampant abuse of free speech that need to be reined in.

Exactly. 👍

What a law like that CAN do is make it easier to convict an ignorant parent. This dad knew his son was being picked on at school. This was a nice looking kid who seems wouldn't have trouble with girls or fitting in.

Do you guys who own AR style guns let your teenage sons shoot them?

You would think a Federal law would be passed to force all states to abide.
