Didn't he fire the air traffic controllers for going on strike?

Yes he did... a President can't fire the dockworkers though,
but Biden has made the NLRB a union lapdog... so the dock workers will crash the economy
knowing the Feds have got their back.
The greedy bastards are already some on the best paid workers on the planet.

QuoteIt's unclear how long the strike will last and how expensive it will be, but a prolonged shutdown could deal a significant blow to the economy since the workers who handle shipping containers control major commercial choke points.

The showdown also presents a political problem for President Joe Biden, who has the power to suspend the strike. Doing so would take away workers' leverage and could hurt the union-friendly president's relationship with organized labor.

Biden won't suspend the strike, but I'm thinking this whole thing is a setup for Harris to step in and save the day.

She'll tell them that she comes from a middle class family and they will identify with her and resume working to shut her up.

If that's the case it will probably work to Trump's benefit. She is one of the few politicians who always seems to strike out in a game of Tee-ball.

not if it's all pre arranged.
She'll call a meeting with her and both sides.
They'll leave the meeting with an agreement after long hours of hard bargaining and Harris
will have saved the day and demonstrated her ability to be a great POTUS..

It' will all be bullshit of course,,.. but it will be very good election year theater.

The only thing wrong with my conspiracy theory is the Longshoremen's union.
Those guys are greedy militant assholes, they have the country by the balls and they know it.
Harris will have to give away the farm to work a deal ... and the companies who actually have to pay these
thieves may not play ball.

I just read an article that said the average dockworker grossed 150K/year with an additional $35K in annual benefits.

And they flat turned the down a 50% pay increase.

Fuck 'em. Bring in the robots.

There is no more abysmal(that means extremely bad, Del) customer service on earth than that provided in those ports.

A guy who used to work here had a brother who ran one of those cranes that load/unload shipping containers
He had a 24 hour work week and made $280K/year... and that was about 8 years ago.
Admittedly running one of those cranes is not something you'd wan to do tired, but that's just one more argument in favor of robots..... faster, more precise, never gets tired.

The current problem with port automation is that all the equipment comes from China. Buying it from them is a massive national security risk. They would build in backdoors that allow them to shut it down.

I hadn't though of that.
Korea but's stuff like this as well but the controls probably come from Chinese sources

Those effing bastards. we were waiting for a new power supply to arrive from Okuma Japan and it is now stuck in port because of the strike. They are going to ship another one via expedited air so it doesn't go through the port but the machine waiting on the drive will be down for few more days now.
