Conservative Republicans, being bad at humor and art as they tend to be, really liked the show and watched it eagerly, having no idea they were being mocked and were the subject of the jokes.

I tried to convince my son in law,  back when Colbert was on the Jon Stewart show, that he was making fun of Republicans but he wouldn't believe me.
