Quote from: YoDoug on September 08, 2025, 11:52 AMWe have ABB, Doosan, and UR robots here. I have also worked with Kuka and Fanuc robots in the past. I am currently setting up robot number 17 here (in 7.5years). I won't tell you I'm the expert, but I've spent some time building robot loaded lathe cells as we have 12 of them here. I am glad to help If I can answer any questions for you.

Look on Ebay for used industrial robots. There are a lot of robots under $15k. You are probably going to want to stick to a cobot so you don't have to do all the guarding and safety crap. A month or so ago we almost bought the biggest ABB cobot for $20K off ebay, but we ended up getting a UR robot instead.

You forgot to say......"I'm Vegan" :)

You would be the first I would ask for help on this subject. ;)  :respect:

Have you had many problems with your Universals Doug?  safety guarding wise he can just put up some cage and put a $20 interlock on the door to the robot safety chain - go all the way and have a safety Mat inside.

To that end brand new the Epson 6-axis robots are cheap. Programming kind of sucks, but hardware wise the scara Epsons we have are bulletproof. 10+ years, Millions of cycles, we've changed one motor on one robot.

Doug's advice going to be the best around you'll get unless you eat meat 😬😬

I was going to suggest you would also be a good resource for robot stuff but nobody would ever believe a Canadian liberal could be smart enough to robot!   ;)  ;D

Honestly I'm not a fan of Cobots for most machine tending, but you can save some $$ on fences, switches, etc. by going the cobot route.

We've only had the UR for a couple months and just started production a couple weeks ago. Time will tell. We have a Doosan that at first had a weird encoder plug wiring issue that was hard to pinpoint, but once we resolved that it has been very reliable. It looks like Doosan just copied UR. The IO board looks identical and the language is almost the same. The UI is a little different and IMO better than the UR.

They each have their place (Cobots and Robots). Much of it depends on budget and how much interaction between the CNC and how the interaction takes place.

A robot can give you some seriously cool capabilities, but for garden variety pick and place,  no guarding, and nothing special... cobots are hard to beat.

Haha at this point I've been working longer in USA than Canada, crazy.
But IMO industrial robotics are waaaay better adopted in Canada vs California.
(Ontario/quebec anyway)
The integrators here are pretty basic.

The only Cobot I've liked has been the Fanuc LR mate. I have no love for Fanuc robots except the LR mate being arguably the best <10kg payload ever mate.

Definitely for simple pick and place, integration wise a simple UR is tough to beat, but I've heard enough headaches about unreliability, drift etc. that's caused me to avoid them.
It's been telling that they're sold often through distributors not integrators.
Counterpoint they've been around long enough now, enough people are happy with them.

My CRX-25 is currently running 2 op parts in my speedio. Very impressed with the CRX so far. It has all the power of a yellow robot with some cool collaborative functions. I'm using probably 5% of its capabilities now. CRX-10 might still be out of your price range tho....

The real questions is do you like to live dangerously.... the CRX25 can do 30kg with the safeties off.....

could someone explain the difference?
I am utterly clueless when it comes to robots
