Quote from: Flycut on September 09, 2025, 08:54 AMThanks,
That's awesome.
I don't need much reach.
I plan on putting locating pins on the floor right next to the door and moving the robot away when not needed and then quickly reposition.

Personally, if I was you I would show more appreciation..

Maybe invite YoDoug to a BBQ at the House. :D

Or a Gift Card to Arby's. (We Got The Meats)

See while I will say with utmost confidence that a plant based diet is the healthiest diet period, If you give me an Arby's gift card I'm going to be eating Arby's for lunch.

LOL!!!

I always get "The Big Montana" I think it is 3/4 lb.

I don't like any of their Fries , But I love the Onion Rings.

Arby's and DQ have the Best onion rings.

Arby's has a Good Gyro too. But they never give you any sauce. Tsaki ??

I always ask for extra and only get 1 Pack. >:(

This leads to the next logical question? Can I buy a whole cow as a business expense if I cook and eat most of it at the shop? How much productivity will i get out of the shop when its treager powered?

This would require a skilled Analyst.

Are or do you intend to introduce any Pork Products??

Such as Bacon? (Not Canadian That's Ham)

Most of these guys are blessed with 6 Pizzas every 6 Months for "Employee Appreciation Day" :(

That is always an option. I'm an equal opportunity eater...

I will claim i am in R&D for automating kitchens....

How much is one of those wood fired pizza ovens again...?

We Have a company here EBN ,Evansville Bolt and Nut.

Yearly they have a pork Roast. and all the fixins.

They don't even check I.D.

I would bet they serve over 2000 meals.

Parking is non existent within a 1/4 mile.

Cost to eat?? Zero.

When I need a drill or anything they are first. :D

Quote from: CNCAppsJames on September 09, 2025, 11:29 AMJust to throw it out there... we have a customer with a Haas VF-2 (IIRC). The machine has an Auto-Door and a UR Cobot.

Anyway, his parts going into the machine are aligned on a Lego base plate and legos...Yes Lego. He figured it out one evening while playing with his kids. The parts he runs in that machine are UHMW and some other plastics.

Just throwing it out there. If doing metal parts, you may not get a ton of durability, but it at least gets you started on a basic design.

You cannot view this attachment.

I have a 3d printer I plan to make locating trays and grippers with but lego is a great idea.

The IRB120 ABB might still be larger than I would need.

I have a feeling that size is another factor between robot and cobot.
I do remember seeing a bench top robot once that was mounted to some linear rails for extra travel.

Legos at least give you an easy way to test things out before committing hours to printing something that may not quite work the way you want.

Brilliant!!! :)

Also before you get super excited about the robot make sure your machining process is 110% dialed in. nothing is worse than having the robot crank out scrapped parts with broken tools. Speaking from experience, things can cascade in very "Interesting" ways when left unattended. Sometimes a "fix" will introduce more issues down the road that you don't find untill 100 or so parts. Fun stuff!

Experience tells me I never have too much reach, only too little. The two concerns are the reach from the robot to you machine spindle. Some machines have big enclosures and make that a big reach. Also reach will dictate how much real estate you have for part que.

We have 15 ABB's here and I just got a quote today for two more. I would not hesitate buying that IRB120 if I were setting up your cell. ABB makes great robots
