I have read that there are first class hospitals in northern US border states that do a booming business serving cash paying Canadians seeking life saving health care they cannot get in Canada in a timely manner.
...
I can attest to the truth of this. I have customers in Bellingham Washington. When I go up there and stay, the hotel I usually stay at looks more like a hospital ward than a hotel. There's 3-4 XL Courtesy Passenger Vans there. I've only ever seen barely mobile people get in them. Anectodal? Of course.

The reality of the situation is that A LOT of people come to the US for healthcare. It's just a fact.

I pay for Medigap insurance on top of the Part B cost. It's still pretty affordable, I pay an additional $154 a month for plan G. My social security covers Part B and Plan G easily.

The Medigap will limit your annual deductible to $257 a year for 2025. So the $154 a month is more but if something catastrophic happens it's money will spent, imo.

Hey, you don't ever want to use it, but that's kind of the nature of insurance right?

And even if you don't spend for a supplement, Part B will still cover 80% of your costs.

When I started at my company in 2007, the company paid for my health care, and dental plan, and I could add my family which I did. For a spouse and 4 kids it ran me $250~$300/mo. Co-pays were $15~$20 for an office visit. Max out of pocket was ~$3k

Today the company still pays for me and I pay for my spouse and my 21 year old son. $600~$650/mo. Co pays now $45~$50 and max out of pocket ~$8k.

The only thing that has stayed about the same was some basic medications... anti-biotics, anti-inflammatories, etc...

Quote from: neurosis on October 27, 2025, 02:48 AMHow many people does a family plan cover?
A place I worked a while ago paid for employee, but it cost to add family members.  Going from memory and rounding a bit, it was $500 for spouse, $250 for a child, $500 for children (unlimited IIRC).  But to add family (spouse + children) was $1100.  I told them I would like to add my spouse and my children.  They said "so family"  I said "no, very specifically, spouse and children."  That told me that's a family plan.  No one could tell me why it was $100 more for the exact same thing if they called it what they called it.  (Rounding aside, I do remember it was exactly $100.)  They told me I was the first person who ever asked.  But they wouldn't check the boxes for spouse, children, only family.  Go figure.

Perhaps the most disturbing thing about this whole thread is that Nutboy has four children.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Look, we get it. You like what we have. Until you don't. You also don't like big bad scary words, especially when you don't understand them or are unable to put them in context.

Enjoy the best health care system in the world.

Wow, I just asked for a source for your poll so I could see the details and you reply with insults and anger.

When people say "conservative" now they really mean hard core radical right Trump sycophant Repug. Nothing conservative about that.

There needs to be a whole new dictionary to define what changes Repugs have made to our language.

My controversial take on this.
Make America Unhealthy. Even more so than what it is. Encourage people to smoke, eat shit and hold down couches for a hobby. People will die before they get old and become a burden on the health care system. Less burden = lower costs!!!

Nobody in my family really likes Trump, he is just the lesser of two evils. I would say conservative in their distrust of government and the fact that all of my kids are financially smart and honest enough to know the current trajectory of  government growth and corruption is not sustainable.

You want to lower health care costs in this country, stop letting big AG and big food obscure and suppress the science that shows they are a large contributor to the plague of chronic illness in this country.
