To be fair, both sides do that. But there has been an extraordinary amount of whataboutism in the last year.

You can't convince me that you think the SCOTUS hasn't handed Trump an open check book to write the majority of his agenda?
Or, the Judicial Branch is returning to it's roots of interpreting law as opposed to creating it.

As a firearms owner I have grown accustomed to legal situations taking a VERY long time to wind their ways through the system. The People's Republik of Kommieforniastan has for DECADES created an web of legislation that is KNOWN  AND ACKNOWLEDGED (just ask Reggie Sawyer-Jones ) to be unconstitutional at every level. He said on the record "We're California,  we do what we want."

So I'll tell you what the Anti-2a establishment tells us, "wait for it to wind it's way through the court."

I for one am anxious for "birthright citizenship" to be adjudicated.  I think there is a compelling case against it. Just because something is tradition, doesn't make it right.  Since 1932 and the NFA it's been the tradition to impose unconstitutional burdens on those wishing to exercise their enumerated constitutional rights.

So, welcome to the club of people doing what you perceive as wrong and seemingly getting away with it. The wheels of justice turn slowly. Buckle up.

So when they rule in a way you don't like, it's activism or legislating from the bench. When they rule in a way you do like, it's returning to its roots of interpreting the law as opposed to creating it. Gotcha.

You'll probably be surprised to know that I mostly agree with you on this. I don't like the way all of this came about, but I feel that the law needs to be more clear. Some say that it is already clear enough?

Quote from: CNCAppsJames on January 19, 2026, 05:16 PMIf you think Trump "controls the media" then we have VERY different definitions of what the word "control" means.
Perhaps "exerting influence" works for you?  What do you call using the FCC to force Kimmel off the air, albeit only for a handful of days because like many dumb ideas, it didn't work?
But what has been done at CBS, cancelling the Late Night show to get their merger with Paramount signed off, and forcing them to install a "friendly" in the form of Bari Weiss.  Or all the meritless lawsuits against other media.
QuoteThe settlements have come from X, ABC News, Meta, YouTube and Paramount. None of them were justified on the merits. Paramount, for example, agreed to pay the president $16 million for what he claimed was the deceptive editing of a 2024 Kamala Harris interview. The editing was a normal part of journalism. Three weeks later, the Federal Communications Commission approved an $8 billion merger with Skydance.

Ignoring that, can you answer the question?
"Can you say the last time a democratic president was threatening their closest ally or actively destroying NATO?"

Mostly because he's using indignation to dodge the question.  But especially because he's trying to create a moral equivalency between the Orange Turd and some hypothetical Democrat straw man.  And @beej claims to not believe in moral relativism, so either he's a hypocrite or he needs to admit that drumpf is morally corrupt and a f-ing disaster for the reputation of this country on the world stage.

So lets see here... BY CONGRESSIONAL CHARTER, the FCC has a great deal of control (read death penalty control) over OTA TV channels (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, and two more I'm forgetting ATM). They MUST serve "the public good". That is the mission when broadcasting OTA on PUBLIC frequency bands. Late Night TV hasn't served the public good since Jay Leno retired but obviously that is public opinion and totally subjective. The View is still on... how? I have no idea. But Freedom of Speech is prevailing in that endeavor just time. But, the fact of the matter with regard to Kimmel is he said things that crossed a line that went beyond freedom of speech and as a result was punished... albeit for WAY too short a span of time.

"Meritless lawsuits?" You have solid takes for the most part even though we may heartily disagree, but if you could step back and take off the #OrangeManBad glasses for a minute, before Trump decided to run for the highest public office, he was the darling of the left. Even Oprah doded over him. When he chose to run and he decided he was going to be a major disruption to the status quo, he became Public Enemy #1. And the MSM's negative press machine has been merciless and relentless in that endeavor. Anythhing negative (real or imaginary) is shouted from the mountaintops. Anything positive is ignored and suppressed. So much so that it violates not only any semblance of common decency, but nearly every journalism rule written and unwritten. When EVERYTHING is negative, nothing is anymore. Cried wolf over running in the hallways with scissors as a kid and the like that it's now just tiresome noise. Shoudl have not cried wolf so much. Now we all suffer. Nice job.

I get it, in public he's crass, he's classless, and a whole host of other negative things, but when serial sexual predator and cocaine runner William Jefferson Clinton and his executioner wife gets a pass for their behavior and deeds. Nary a word about it. Nary a word about Biden's cognitive decline. Only words about and for #OrangeManBad.

Son.... the CIA did that LONG before you and I were even a gleam in our daddies eye. THe only difference between the CIA's misdeeds and Trump's are Trump's are front and center, and the CIA's are buried deep in policy papers that are so dry even policy wonks have a hard time getting through it. SO spare us the righteous indignation when it comes to #OrangeMandBad doing bad.

Personally, whatever mayhem we're creating with NATO... I'm ok with it. NONE of the member nations have been paying their contractual share.

And world stage reputation? IDGAF anymore. I really and truly don't. I've been watching our so-called allies take advantage of our largess since the 90's and frankly, I've had enough. If we piss them off, too bad, so sad. They have been behaving like petulant children for decades and it's time for it to stop. Now, obviously we have our part in that, but it's time we stop the abuse. It's time we stop giving money to nations and people that hate us. Its time we let nature take it's course. If that means, we  enlarge our borders, well, than that's what it means. It's either us or it's China, and I vote for us. You vote for whomever you want.

In what way exactly?  He said some stuff that a lot of people didn't like.  He maybe even was crass and more than a little insensitive.  Kinda reminds us of someone else that never shuts up doesn't it?  But did he call "fire" in a crowded theater?  Did he encourage or incite anyone to engage in a criminal act?  No.

Quote from: CNCAppsJames on January 20, 2026, 11:24 AMhe chose to run and he decided he was going to be a major
... mouthpiece for bigotry and hate, but mostly just lies.  On day one in office, the press had to have a little sit-down with itself, and decide how to cover the presidency in light of, as you say, "major disruption to the status quo".  They really wrestled with how to delicately avoid saying "the president lied".  Kellyanne Conway helped them out a little by coining the phrase "alternative facts" which as the interviewer pointed out at the time, was in reference to an obvious and provable falsehood.  On the campaign trail he had already denied saying things that he was on tape saying, endlessly repeated "fake news" and that the press is thee enemy of the American people.  I'd say he pretty much started that hate-hate relationship you are so concerned with the press waging.

If he doesn't want people/press to say bad things about him I have a helpful suggestion:  Stop doing terrible stuff!
