I'm trying to figure out where you're at here.

Same with youdoug.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

A big sorry to JP.

I feel like I ran him off challenging his "conservative"ness

Quote from: neurosis on November 07, 2025, 12:57 PMYou realize that the current Republicans tried to cede that power to the executive so they didn't have to take responsibility for what Trump is doing.
Every Session of Congress has been doing that since at least Reagan's 2nd Term.

Prior to Reagan's 2nd Term, only certain things between ~77 and 89 stick out to me that I was paying attention to at the time... gotta remember I literally spent 75% of the 80's high AF. So I have to go back and go into the National Archives, Library of Congress, etc... (which I do often).

He's got more important things to tend to ATM. Nobody runs JP off. He's been on the grind since the beginning.

can you give some examples that compare to what happened in that attempt to cede power in the BBB?

JP is literally my favorite person on here. Anything I've ever needed to discuss, I trusted him the most.

I'm not shit talking him.  If I've ever offended him I'd feel horrible about it.

Start with "The Constitution is a perfect document", "I hate my government, the people running it, and the things they do to us." and go from there.

That's where I'm at. That's where I've always been. I manage to function within the convoluted trash the bureaucrats operating in the shadows have created for us as best I can, because I don't fancy prison.

I planned on it... just got something I'm working on for work that is #1 priority ATM. I've been posting in between waiting for simulations to run.

So then in the context of this conversation, if you're also a textualist, what do you think about what  Gorsuch said?

QuoteSome of the justices made this explicit. Gorsuch, who was especially pointed yesterday, offered that accepting the administration's logic and the powers they've assumed would result in "a one-way ratchet toward the gradual but continual accretion of power in the executive branch and away from the people's elected representatives."

"Congress, as a practical matter, can't get this power back once it's handed it over to the president," he correctly noted.

I would disagree with the "... can't get 'this' power back...". A POTUS's EO only exists so long as the next POTUS doesn't decide to nullify it. The precedent was set HARD with the Biden Administration, and that Bell can't be unrung.

I loathe the EO. It sould only be used in extreme emergencies when Congress is out of session and cannot return quickly enough to do the job we pay them to do. The problem is they are miserable wretches only concerned with enriching themselves at our expense and could not care less about doing the actual job they are obligated to do.

They've abdicated regulatory issues, they've abdicated legislative issues, and I could go on but really it's pointless to continue to state the obvious illness within our Republic; a crisis of leadership and a total lack of accountability.

If you really want to be bored to death.

It didn't sound like it went well for Sauer. There was definitely some verbal gymnastics going on.

I think that Neil Gorsuch does a pretty good job of explaining why this road we're headed down is a problem.

For those who think this wont come back to bite you in the ass in the future

QuoteCould the president impose a 50% tariff
on gas powered cars and auto parts to
deal with the unusual and extraordinary
threat from abroad of climate change?

The answer was yes.
