And after they rid all Americans of meat the Bureau for Sprout and Celery welfare will say they each need at least 9 square feet of growing space.

If God didn't want me eating bacon then He wouldn't have created lettuce and tomato.

I tried chocolate covered bacon for the first (and last) time over the weekend.  Local fudge and ice cream shop had it.  Glad I tried it, but it just wasn't for me.

I'm guessing the end result of this is higher pork prices for everyone
Cali is too big a market to lose, so the pork producers will knuckle under
make the changes and pass the cost along to all their customers

if they ban BACON they should be kicked out of the Union.
isn't it in the constitution "life liberty and the pursuit of BACON"

The true cost of AG hasn't been fully passed on to the consumers for the better part of a century. This like most other AG money issues will be bailed out with subsidies that are the burden of all tax payers, whether or not they choose to eat bacon and whether or not they live in Cali and voted for the legislation.

the government sure isn't subsidizing the the dairies my wife works for
They set the price of milk and extra millions a month in "milk market fees"
There were 400 dairies locally 20 years ago.. now there are about 10
Much of that is due to land development, but most of the mom and pop dairies
died years ago, crushed by never ending piles of state and federal paperwork.

Many of them sold out and moved to what they though would be greener pastures
farter north...few few survived as those pastures were more heavily regulated
than the ones they left.

you just can't understand government over regulation till you fill out the monthly
.gov spread sheet that gathers data on cow farts. You need a phd in bullshit to fill it
out and the results really are true bull shit.. garbage in, garbage out... but God help you
should you miss the monthly filing

Most of the studies are in the way of subsidized feed. They are not direct to the farmer, but in reduced feed costs. If all of those feed subsidies were not there the average dinner plate in America would look different. It would be mostly veggies/grains/starch with meat and dairy being small portions because of expense. Instead we subsidize feed so McDonalds/Wendy's/etc. can sell a bacon cheeseburger for a $1.50. You can lay graphs of annual meat/dairy consumption, industry subsidies, Weight gain, Chronic illness, and big food corp profits over each other and they all follow the same trend.

Preliminary estimates put the increased pork costs at around +60%.

I don't believe that is true. I raise a few beef. I know guys who raise a LOT of beef. and I know guys who raise dairy.  There are no subsidies that I am aware of. We buy bulk feed that is ground and mixed and local elevators. And I know that they are not getting money from the government for it.  So where do these subsidies get into the mix?
