I agree 100% charging the parents for allowing their son to have access to the gun the father purchased that killed 4 students.

pretty close to home. It's in the same county I live in and over 60 schools have yet to return classes. Copy cat threats.
Prosecutor just had a news briefing. A lot more about this. Parents knew something was wrong and so did the school.
Dad bought the gun for the kid. I could see a red rider but a 9mm Sig ???

times sure have changed
when I was that kid's age, I had full access to all the families guns
in fact it was my job to keep them clean and there was hell to pay should my father find
one dirty

As far as what is being told by the news and the authorities, the parents definitely showed a flagrant disregard for gun safety in this case. If the evidence supports it I do think they should be convicted. However, I worry that over zealous anti-gun liberal prosecutors will use this as justification to try to charge parents that do keep their guns safely stored. One of the tactics of the anti-gun left is to make the laws so complicated that well intentioned responsible gun owners can be charged with gun related crimes, all meant to scare people out of owning guns.

It's pretty rare that parents are charged. There's probably some political motivation behind it. OTOH, the fact that this kid had troubles and yet was still granted access. No two ways about it, that has to be answered for.

When I was a teenager I had one friend that had guns lying around their house all the time. He was always playing with them, pointing them at people, etc. Used to scare the heck out of me because I was taught gun safety at a young age. I can't ever remember seeing ammo or one the guns being loaded, but it still was scary.

the problem with these extra laws is something like this has to happen to enforce them

BINGO!

Every January, I spend a few days going over the new firearms related legislation that was passed by the Constitution hating leftist authoritarians running my state and what (if any) effect they have on what I may or may not own. It's tiring. But I'm not giving up or giving in.

Times have changed when friends brought their guns to Rod and Gun Club in HS and no one thought anything about it.

My dad told me 100 times more not to touch the stove than he did his guns. I didn't turn my first stove on until I was 37. Lol

I didn't have to keep ours clean but if I took one out it better be cleaned before I put it back. In high school more than half the vehicles had guns in them. the pickups would have guns hanging off the gun racks. Our principle once pulled his shot gun out of his trunk and showed it off. But most everybody's parents would teach the children how to handle them so it was ok at that period of time. The only people getting shot back then were drunks at the country & western bars.  :D
