I think gcode is right on point.

Trump is so toxic that the Dems would burn the whole thing to the ground before ever seeing him elected again.

Yeah, DeSantis is young, but that could be to his advantage.

There are other candidates who could go the distance too, so the primary should be interesting.
Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, Kristi Noem, Nikki Haley, and Mike Pence would all be better than Biden.

Of course, the biggest factor will be whether or not Trump decides to run.

Quote from: neurosis on July 13, 2022, 05:52 AMI probably should have mentioned that the poll question was framed as 'if the primaries were held today' so more of a 'would you rather see someone else win the primary'. That doesn't mean that they wouldn't vote for Trump over Biden.  I didn't read far enough in to the poll to know what questions were asked.

The NY Post has a short article on it.

Half of GOP voters want someone other than Trump in 2024: poll

I wouldn't dispute that. I think a lot of right leaning people would rather see someone else than Trump. I think though that a lot of people see the Dems ultra scorched earth attacks on Trump and think if he just goes away from politics that things would settle down. I think they are fools. The tactics and attitude of the Dem party towards Trump is the new Democrat party. They will do the same to anyone else that opposes them.

The Dems are so toxic that they will burn the whole thing to the ground before seeing any Republican elected. Anybody that thinks it's just Trump is a fool. The only reason we are where we are with trump is because he fought back. Anybody else that is willing to fight back will feel the full force of the Dem and media disinformation machine.

The thing is primary voters tend to be the hard core party loyalist on both sides.
(90% of the people in that NYT poll won't vote in the primaries)
That is why Bernie won the 2020 primaries
( yes, he did win them and the back room boys fucked him and installed Biden)
that is why Trump will win the 2024 primaries
the harder the Dem's pound on him, the more his people love him.
the more the Dems and Liz Cheney pontificate at their J6 show trial, the more
his people know they got robbed in 2020... and the more they want payback in 2024
2 years from the last election and 2 years till the next one, Trump can still fill
stadiums anywhere in middle America and does so regularly.  (though you'll never see that
on the nightly news)
The only thing that will stop Trump from winning the primaries is a criminal conviction
illness or death

Yes.. they have been smearing DeSantis for some time now and it will only get work as 2024 gets closer

Articles like this are dumb. Poll a small group of people, then slap a headline that insinuates that it goes for every citizen in the U.S.

Got to make the money some how.

Out of curiosity, do you find this article just as dumb?

Poll: Trump dominates 2024 Republican primary field

I'm just testing for consistency.

The Hill article is from 2021 I believe but I'm guessing if I had posted the Hill article no-one here would have challenged it.

We know that polls aren't always accurate. The headline of the article was definitely dumb. I was surprised to see it in the NY Post considering they tend to lean to the right and more commonly use inflammatory language toward the left in their reporting. The reason I found the poll interesting is I am starting to see more people who claim to be conservatives saying the same thing on Social media.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

All polls are dumb unless they can poll the masses. Polling a small qty of people and then saying that's what R's want or D's want is stupid. Because you can take those polls, and poll the same number of people in a specific area to get the result you want for the clickbait headline.

That may be true, but you must admit there is an extra layer of vitriol when it comes to liberals and Trump.
I'm not saying it is ONLY him, but it seems to be exaggerated to the Nth degree when his name is mentioned.
I recently witnessed a family member get completely triggered when another family member wore a MAGA hat at a 4th of July family cookout.  :weirdo:

You can call me a fool if you want to Doug, but that was as real as it gets.

Liberals are triggered, it is their normal operating mode. If it's not Trump, it's the police, or abortion or.........

If Trump fades out of the spotlight whoever becomes the defacto leader of conservative wing of the R party will become the new trigger for them. The media will run every lie and disinformation that the Dems spew and it will cause all the same rage in liberals. Yes Trump is an a-hole, but give DeSantis enough time as the leader and the same people triggered by Trump hat at a BBQ will be triggered by a DeSantis hat.

In the last three or four years, I've watched several people who have been friends for years completely stop talking to each other over politics.  One group had been family friends since childhood. One Democrat found out that the other (who is also a Democrat but was tired of the status quo) voted for Trump and they posted a lengthy "I can't be friends with someone who has that low of morals" post on Facebook. Shaming them for voting for Trump   Now neither family will talk to each other.

Quote from: YoDoug on July 13, 2022, 09:37 AMYes Trump is an a-hole,
Yep. And that's what it takes to get this country back on course.

But the main reason the media constantly bashes him is because he can't be bought.
The libtards are triggered because that's what their media wanted them to be, they wanted mass outrage and hatred for Trump. And when all you read is negative things about someone you're bound to have a negative view of that person. Brainwashing.

But libtards are triggered over everything. Take the new Thor movie for example, they are pissed that the movie studio didn't give them a trigger warning over something that happened in the movie. Grow the fuck up you pussies!

Oh definitely.
I have seen that happen as well.
My bro-in-law has a close friend since 1st Grade who had a falling out with him when Obama ran for President.  His buddy supported Obama, and he didn't.

They didn't speak to each other for more than 10 years because of that stupid political disagreement.

Recently his friend had to undergo a heart transplant, and many of us participated in a fund-raiser to help with the expenses that his insurance wouldn't cover.

Thankfully they both decided to leave the past behind them because I think they both realized that none of us are getting any younger, and life is too short to hold grudges.

I first noticed this back when Regan was elected president.
I was stunned at the hatred and venom people I thought were normal started spewing when Regan came up.
I remember reading an article that cheered Hinkley's assassination attempt and raged at him
for being a poor shot.
It's one of the main reasons I became a conservative, I didn't want anything to do with what I was seeing
from the left.  The internet and social media has only made their affliction worse
