Partisan media is more like it.
I'm taking the "facts" from someone I know personally who was there, so yeah, I'm good with my understanding of what actually happened.

I honestly don't know what it is. We had a couple of friends at that rally too, and they both left for their rooms after it, and didn't even realize there was a riot until they saw it on the news...and yet there it is, and as I've watched various people be identified on the news, thus far they have ALL been Right-wingers not Left wing...and yet, I admit, CNN would never tell us otherwise, though I would expect Fox to do so, and so far they haven't...

I believe that there were a few leftist agitators in among the trumpist rioters.  They learned it from the Proud Boys, Nazi's, and other far right agitators among those rioting last summer, including the St. Paul police officer who broke the first window to set the tone.  No one is playing nice.

Quote from: Reko post_id=2912 time=1610365705 user_id=59I love free markets.

Parler was the epitome of that.

Censorship of free speech is at an all-time high... and Parler was making a move to open the market up and provide the sorely needed free speech... but they were targeted and ended.

Is it not what you enjoy, the free market. Amazon is a private own company, they can do what they want.
Parler was using Amazon to host their data.
A do not agree at all with the ban but if you preach for the free market, you must accept the pros and cons.
I repeat I do not agree with the ban of Parler.

Parler sues Amazon

https://www.theepochtimes.com/parler-sues-amazon-asks-washington-court-to-reinstate-platform_3652177.html">//https://www.theepochtimes.com/parler-sues-amazon-asks-washington-court-to-reinstate-platform_3652177.html

QuoteSocial media company Parler sued Amazon on Monday, alleging that the Seattle-based firm's hosting service violated anti-trust laws and their contractual agreement.

The company, which was taken offline by Amazon's services early Monday morning, asked a federal judge in Washington state to reject Amazon's shutdown of its services.

Parler argued that Amazon's move was "motivated by political animus" and designed to reduce competition to benefit Twitter. Twitter is a customer of Amazon Web Services' division.

The emergency order asked a judge to reject Amazon's shutdown of Parler's account and said it is akin to "pulling the plug on a hospital patient on life support."

Amazon "will kill Parler's business—at the very time it is set to skyrocket," Parler's complaint said.

"When Twitter announced two evenings ago that it was permanently banning President Trump from its platform, conservative users began to flee Twitter en masse for Parler. The exodus was so large that the next day, yesterday, Parler became the number one free app downloaded from Apple's App Store," the lawsuit reads.

Yeah. I'm afraid they would find less than grocery lists and wedding invitations if my account were hacked.

I believe I've upvoted around 400 articles and commented somewhere between 5 and 10x. Like I said, not real active. Wanted an account just to give the bird to Twatter.

I checked the link and my account so far was not compromised.

Yep.
I KNOW there were some there, because my bro-in-law and sister talked to some of them.

One guy was wearing a Trump hat and carrying a megaphone.
He was more aggressive than most, yelling at the cops and seemed to be trying to egg them on, and seemed like he was generally just stirring up trouble.
My bro-in law got a little closer to the guy, then he noticed he had a BLM tattoo on his forearm.

He started a conversation with him and soon realized who he was and why he was there.
My bro-in-law asked him why he had a BLM tat but wore a Trump hat, and the guy just ignored him at first, then he just laughed.

Yeah well you have to show me Trump's specific words that did that, because I read his speech and his social media posts and I don't see it.
I see a call to protest, as is our Constitutional right.

That's exactly what I was talking about.
Two people can read the same speech, and one hears hate and violence, and the other doesn't.

Jim are we getting our threads mixed up? This is about Parler, not Trump's rally/riot for which he is going to be impeached, again. You, Gcode and others seem to take the same stand since Trump didn't utter the specific words, and yet, those at the rally clearly had a different take on it because the moment he was done, they went down the street, breached the Capitol building and looted it. I guess I kind of take their opinion of it over yours, but I guess I could be wrong.

As for Parler, I've seen multiple screen shots of it on my wife's Facebook feed, posted by horrified or supportive friends (as the case may be) which call for mass insurrection and a refusal to allow the inauguration of the incoming Biden administration. I just watched  a video this morning of a delusional man who has 'inside government sources' who assured him and his listeners that Trump is going to declare Marshall law and now that the riot revealed all the traitors, including Pence and McConnell, Trump will be able to make a clean sweep of them and restart the Republic without them. So, you better stock up for a couple of weeks until order is restored and the government is safely back in Trump's hands. Do you live in a big city? If so, you may be screwed. My little town will probably peacefully pass away the insurrection/marshall law.... :coffee: (I guess I better add, sarcasm off, to that last part just in case anyone thinks I believe this..)
Perhaps it is not Parler, but the people your wife knows on Facebook that are the issue. I am (was) on Parler myself, and don't see any of that in my feed. None.

Quote from: CNCAppsJames post_id=2993 time=1610392296 user_id=62I ACTUALLY personally know a family of 4 that WAS there and I actually spoke with them with my mouth over the phone... none of this I saw a feed somebody screenshot, because they agreed/were horrified bovine feces.

Sharing that unverified crap, does NOTHING but feed trolls and give purpose to useful idiots.

Glad to see so many that allegedly love The Republic work so hard to undermine it.

Not that I expect you to admit you were wrong, but I put a couple of links over on the actual Capitol riot thread from The Hill, a right-wing publication that says you two are incorrect and the vast majority of those so far arrested have been right-wing Trump supporters... :coffee:

You can both be correct.  The Hill said that the vast majority were authentic Trump supporters.  That doesn't preclude there having been a couple BLM people in the mix.

No matter who was in the mix, a person is responsible for their own actions.  This applies to protestors, rioters, and police officers in all places and at all times no matter their affiliations or political views.

Jim as much as I agree with you and liked your comment, I'm pretty sure this is NOT why Parler got shut down. If someone can show otherwise, then I'd be happy to acknowledge it, but it was the calls for violence and overthrowing the incoming administration that got them shut down.

QuoteAWS provides technology and services to customers across the political spectrum, and we continue to respect Parler's right to determine for itself what content it will allow on its site. However, we cannot provide services to a customer that is unable to effectively identify and remove content that encourages or incites violence against others. Because Parler cannot comply with our terms of service and poses a very real risk to public safety, we plan to suspend Parler's account."
Bull.
You can't prove why they were shut down... I say it was collusion to eliminate competition... and that's as good a reason as you can put forth.

I never said there weren't genuine Trump supporters who crossed the line.
Some did for sure, and those who did should face the consequences of their actions.
I said the mood on the ground from the vast majority of Trump supporters who were there was generally positive, with MOST of them just wanting their voices to be heard by their elected Representatives.

Like those who started burning and looting at the BLM protests, it was a relative few who got all of the attention.
The difference being of course that the goofy mayors in those cities ordered the police to stand down, and the media generally praised the 'mostly peaceful' protesters and NEVER condemned the troublemakers.

This situation in DC is the exact opposite.
The few troublemakers ARE the story, and the hundreds of peaceful people are being ignored.
