I get this Thursday - Friday off and then the following Monday - Tuesday.  This is coming weekend is going to be a long weekend.

Typically we are scheduled to be closed the week between Christmas and New Years
In this case between 12/24/22 to 01/01/23. 7 days off.
They give us 3 days holiday pay and we take 2 days vacation pay.
Normally they have some last minute emergency and schedule people to come in and work.
I've been here nearly 16 years and have only gotten the entire week off once.
It's too early to say for sure this time, but it's not looking good.

Company paid days are Dec. 23rd, 26th, and 30th.  I'm taking leave between Christmas and New Year's day, so after this Thursday, I won't return until Jan. 3rd.  No big plans, just need a break.

Typically run with a light crew during the week between Christmas & New Years, this year looks not much different. I will be coming in, for a couple of reasons.
1- with the light crew I am able to actually get shit done
2- I'd rather take my time off when the temperatures are not preceded by a minus sign.

side note, anytime temperatures are preceded by a minus sign, the description must also contain a expletive.
minus fucking 8 F here this morning. Or minus fucking 22 C
Pick your flavor. I'm pissed that I had to get pants on this morning.

Does that mean there's a "100% chance of beer"?

lol.  There will more than likely be some cocktails on Wednesday and Thursday.

I have to fly to Spokane Christmas eve to meet up with the girlfriend and her family so my liver will get a break the rest of the weekend.

Ah, you Northern Hemisphere people and your white Christmases... something I would like to experience.

Down here, being that Christmas is during our summer, everyone tends to take their summer holiday around this time, so most workplaces shutdown or have light staff.

Our public/stat holidays are the 25th/26th December and January 1st/2nd. Since December 25th and January 1st fall on a Sunday, those days are observed in terms of a public holiday, on the following Tuesday (since Monday is a holiday).

So I finish work on the 22nd December (was going to be the 23rd but I have to get a new windshield in my car on the 23rd) and I'm not back at work until the 9th of January. Doing some contract work over the break though, as my wife has to work a few of the days. Christmas Day will consist of spending time with family, eating Turkey and Salmon, and drinking far too much. Then a few bbq's over the following days.

I've got an old friend visiting from Switzerland from January the 1st, so looking forward to catching up with him and a bunch of others.

Happy Holidays to all you fellow programming degenerates LOL

I'm sure it isn't but regardless, I'd like to experience it at least once.

Antartica is right down the road from you..

I work half a day tomorrow and then off for the year.  Think I will work 3 more months and call it quits.

Operation Deep Freeze, the US Antarctic operation runs out of our city airport. We have a steady stream of New York Air Guard aircraft flying in and out, and Air New Zealands Engineering Base at our airport do the service work on the aircraft, especially the skis used on the C130's that regularly fly down there. The aircrew stay at a hotel I drink at every now and then.

Surprisingly, our city only gets snow once a year, and normally it is pretty light. Even our frosts are pretty light nowadays. But closer to the end of the South Island, yes, winters can be a bit more brutal. But still, snow isn't that prevalent.

We are on a paid shutdown this year from 12/26 through 12/30, returning to work on Jan 2nd.
12/23 is my regular 'off' Friday, so it will be 10 days total for me without using any vacation time.
