The US justice department is reviewing documents marked classified found in President Joe Biden's former office at a think tank, the White House says.

About 10 of the files were discovered in a locked closet at the Penn Biden Center in Washington in November by Mr Biden's legal team, said his lawyer.

The batch has been handed over to the National Archives.

Mr Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, is facing a probe for taking classified files to Florida after his presidency.

According to the BBC's US partner CBS News, the FBI is involved in the inquiry into classified documents found at the Penn Biden Center, and US Attorney General Merrick Garland has been asked to review the papers.

Mr Biden's lawyer said they relate to the period when he was vice-president. But it is unclear what the documents relate to, the level of classification involved or why they were there.

A source familiar with the matter told CBS News the batch did not contain nuclear secrets and had been contained in a folder in a box with other unclassified papers.

I commented on this in the speaker of the house thread. IMO, this is the corrupt DOJ getting ahead of any investigations the new house will launch. They are collecting any evidence of Biden crime family business and then they can stall, lose, and redact any incriminating portions before eventually turning over to house subpoenas.

they were found just prior the mid-term elections, but the media kept it under wraps. Cue the next batch of stories from the MSM about why this is different than what Trump did.

His statement did not explain why there was a two-month delay in revealing the discovery, which happened just before the midterm elections.

In September, President Biden appeared on CBS and was asked for his reaction to a photo showing the documents recovered at Mr Trump's Florida home, Mar-a-Lago.

"How anyone could be that irresponsible?" the president said.

Timing is another aspect of this story to consider. Why now? What other current news is not desirable to the Biden admin/Dems? Is this Biden/Dems dangling a carrot in front of the new House to distract/obstruct them from real investigations of the Bidens. We will know if we see the swamp establishment R's going apesh!t over this while conservatives want real investigations.

the national archives surely knew that they did not have these documents, right? They knew it when they didn't have Trumps documents.

I guess it's possible that someone made copies of these documents without documenting that the copies were made, but that raises more questions.

While the Penn Biden Center has not released information on its donors, foreign funding to the University of Pennsylvania has risen more than threefold since its soft opening, spiking to over $100 million last year from $31 million in 2016, according to Department of Education records. China has been the largest contributor during that time, even as the U.S. federal government and prosecutors have ramped up scrutiny into the Chinese government's influence-buying and espionage operations on American campuses.

Between March 2017 and the end of 2019, the University of Pennsylvania received a total of $61 million in gifts and contracts from China, according to Department of Education records. In the preceding four years, the university received just $19 million from China.

The donations included a $502,750 "monetary gift" in October 2017 from the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, a Chinese government agency that helps administer the regime's "Thousand Talents Plan." Federal prosecutors claim the program is linked to Chinese espionage operations at American universities and have prosecuted academics for hiding their involvement in it. Other contributors included China's Zhejiang University, the China Merchants Bank, and the China Everbright Group, a state-owned investment group, according to federal records.

Many of the Chinese contributions were listed as coming from "anonymous" donors, a practice experts say is an "easy tactic" that allows the Chinese to penetrate the U.S. education system.

"Anonymous giving to universities is an easy tactic the Chinese Communist Party can use to further its pernicious influence in American universities," Michael Sobolik, an Indo-Pacific studies fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council, told the Washington Free Beacon.
