the washington post says that anonymous source says he did, but no other news site has been able to confirm it. and a later WP article says that the classified papers were mostly personaly trophies of the former president, such as hand written notes from Kim Jong Un.

My understanding from what I have read, and from watching some of the talking head shows is that the PR act is pretty broadly written, and that the President gets a good deal of latitude when it comes to 'discretion'.

I believe the original bill called for a 12 year minimum amount of time before a classified document could be de-classified.  One of the revisions they made in like 2007 or 2008 was a change to that time limit, so that President Obama could start writing his memoirs as soon as possible.

It really boils down to the fact that the Dems are steaming now because they gave Obama that latitude, never dreaming Trump would be the next President.

The other theory I see floating out there (although I don't know I believe it) is that the deep state is throwing Biden under the bus with these docs to protect their institutions (FBI, CIA, IRS, etc) from House investigations and possible reform/oversight.

Not a single comment yet from the National Archives as to why they knew\cared about Trump's docs, but did not know\care about Biden's doc's.

Also, they ought to go ahead and raid Clinton, Bush, and Obama's houses too. You know there are docs there.
