The Daily Mail

QuoteA head of risk assessment at the beleaguered Silicon Valley Bank has been accused of prioritizing pro-diversity initiatives over her actual role after the firm imploded on Friday.

Jay Ersapah - who describes herself as a 'queer person of color from a working-class background' - organized a host of LGBTQ initiatives including a month-long Pride campaign and implemented 'safe space' catch-ups for staff.

In a corporate video published just nine months ago, she said she 'could not be prouder' to work for SVB serving 'underrepresented entrepreneurs.'

Quote'We proactively make it our mission at SVB to ensure that our clients, employees and partners feel listened to and that their voices matter.

'From funding underrepresented entrepreneurs to having multiple employee resource groups, I could not be prouder of working for a company like SVB.'

This weekend critics hit out as Ersapah's apparent preoccupation with LGBTQ issues.

One Facebook user, Paul Tucker, wrote: 'The [SVB] Board of Directors is filled with diversity hires who are there because of their woke credentials.

'They all have pronouns in their bios, which are filled with corporate newspeak.

'The Head of Financial Risk and Model Risk Management was this nutbag: Jay Ersapah.

'This is what happens when you allow people to manage your money based on woke principles instead of on their actual skill and competence.

'I hope the depositors at this failed bank enjoy all of that diversity, because diversity is your strength, eh?'

He signed off the post: 'Get woke, go broke.'

Another Twitter user said: 'Head of Financial Risk at SVB Jay Ersapah might've been busy with more important projects at the bank, such as LGBTQ issues, rather than assessing risk.'

Just got a questionnaire from a legal dept. last week so they can share data with our department.

The 1st  group of questions were business, security, clearance, and citizenship related. TOTALLY pertinent and critical.

The other 8 or 9 questions.... mind you, this is JUST so the customer can share data with us (that may or may not be ITAR restricted) so we can support them and we can help them develop post processors and  processes to maximize their investment... 8 or 9 questions ALL related to diversity, and other unrelated to the task questions.

My question is if we answer a question wrong will they not share pertinent data so we won't be able to help them? I mean... what is the point? What do ANY of those things have to do with providing TECHNICAL support? Do I need to be an alpbabet people to perform my job effectively?

I was just beside myself when I read the questionnaire. Thankfully the CEO, COO, or legal gets to deal with it.

Is there any concern that if a transgendered business owner asks for technical support, they may get discriminated against?

That's the only reason that I could see those questions being important.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

I didn't think about it from that angle... I would hope technical support professionals wouldn't withhold support for that. That would be despicable IMHO.

I've gotta support (in a technical sense) any machine we sell. The only time I'd refuse is if I knew the machine was going to China or one our other global enemies or was going to be supporting those nations. I think I could refuse on those grounds and keep my job. But that would be about it.

Many firms now have DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) clauses in their corporate mission statements.
If you don't answer those questions " correctly", you may not get their business.

Like the 'person' a friend of ours is teaching in PA school? Has had their hand held their entire clinical rotation and is basically on the cusp of failing but can't be because they are in a protected class.

Would you like your doctor to have been limped along in school only to graduate with barely enough knowledge to scrape the fungus out from behind toenails?

We already have the business and they can't send it back. They've already crashed the machine hence the reason we're getting involved in Post Processor Development now.

They refused to take their no-charge seat of CAMplete. I told 'em "... look, nobody is saying you have to keep it. Just use it the 1st year and get your NX Post Processor dialed in, then let the license lapse." They passed so I'm using CAMplete to help them develop their Post Processor.

Whatever. I don't care heo we get there, just as long as we get there. They sent me some generic part for Post Development. It's actually a great part. We can do vertical and horizontal turning on it,  We can use all the canned cycles except back bore. A few 5-Axis paths, test coolant modes, etc... I gave 'em basic guidelines for the paths and whatnot. I got none of it the 1st time around. Makes me question how serious they are about dialed in stuff. Shame really.

It very hard to get into medical school. But once you're in, it's very hard to get kicked out.

But then you have to apply for a residency in your chosen field and get 'matched' to a hospital with a residency in that specialty. You rank your choices of residencies, the residency program ranks their picks of student. There is a software program that then 'matches' everyone up.

If you don't get matched, you're kinda fucked. You can reapply for the next match cycle, but a fair amount drop out. They still have a medical degree and can work in research, for insurance companies, medical sale, etc. But they don't become doctors.
