They are getting ready to transfer her to recovery. The original intent was to do the procedure laparoscopically but her mesentery vein had too many fibroids on it. They ended up doing open surgery. He said everything went well. Now it will just be a longer recovery.

She is in a regular hospital room now. A tremendous amount of pain and she is heavily medicated. The open version of the gut reconstruction surgery totally disrupts the core muscles and nerves.

LoL, she had DD when I met her 32 years ago, and we were young and fit back then. 32 years and 4 kids later, and we are a bit further into the alphabet!

She is progressing well. They have removed the NG tube down her throat and the drain tubes in her abdomen. Her gut is awake and processing which is good. For some people it can take a week or two for that to happen. She is off the heavy narcotics and just taking Tylenol to manage the pain. She is still on a liquid diet for a few days and then she can start having low fiber soft foods. Doctor thinks she will be released by Thursday. The VRBO is booked until Monday. If she is ok to travel we will head home then.

The CC has still been awesome. However they are super understaffed for nurses. I have been sleeping here in a crappy hospital recliner so I can be around to help my wife. If you hit the call button, unless you are screaming emergency, it can be 15+ minutes before they get to you.

I wish the best for her.  That is a miserable state to be in, even with excellent care. I hated the ng tube.

It took 8 days for my gut to wake up.

I felt like a little boy being potty trained. "Nurse, nurse! I passed gas!"
