To a lot of leftists here in Washington State, if you own more than one home and are renting out the second home to help pay for your future retirement, you are a public enemy.  Everyone should be forced to live on the same level. If you complain about how trashed your community has become when it gets over-run by homeless drug addicts, then your just a rich nimby who complains to much.

Sadly in our society these days, "rich" has become a pejorative word.

Class warfare has been happening now for decades.

There are places though that people DO have a a point. I think an excellent example of that is the Social Security/Medicare tax. In 2023 anything earned over $160,200 is not taxed for the above purposes. That is one place in the tax code that benefits those higher earners. Something is either fair across the board or it benefits one group or another. That's why I also favor a flat tax...but enough on those, in my opinion any way, easy places to point.

When you consider my wife and I and our combined income being less than $135,000/yr, that's combined and lest not forget she's on disability. She was never a higher or consistent earner, her single best year being the the mid-30's, he disability is very low 5 figures yearly and that's before they take Medicare Part B out....yet people have commented to me directly that "we" are a "well to do" family.

Much of what is called "rich" is very much a perspective thing and it really is defined by those, usually, on the lower level financially.

Let's make no mistake about it, having a networth, as noted, in excess of $300 to $400 million is absolutely well to do....let's also remember that when we look at those numbers I'm wagering MOST of that is unrealized. Meaning it's tied up in the company....sure there are other hlodings and things of tangible value but if everything went bad economically tomorrow, most people in that situation would only be the ones that hung on a little longer but in the end, they would most likely end up in about the same situation as everyone else...

Black Monday(Oct 19, 1987), Black Tuesday(October 24, 1929)...do we forget that those people so tied into unrealized wealth and leveraged wealth hit rock bottom like so many others?
