anybody using AMD Threadrippers with Mastercam.
I saw a YouTube video where gamers were overclocking these to 6.68ghz
I cut this out of the Xi Computers Mastercam page
That is some serious $$$ for a PC.. and it still needs more ram
I think that video card is about $3500 all by itself

Not to mention that they have a miniscule 500gb drive on it when it should be at least 2TB.
That cpu is $3k all by itself.
Is it worth $10k? Not in my opinion.

Yeah 128 GB of memory and Samsung Pro 860 m.2 2TD drive to start would have to be part of that. Price is easy to justify if you are doing some of the work he is doing.

Has anyone tried that graphics card with Mastercam yet?

We've got a couple of NVIDIA® RTX™ A4000's here and their performance is outstanding
Verify launch times and graphics are very good
I would expect the A5500 to be even better, but damn!!! those things are pricey

Restarting this thread does anyone use any of the AMD threadripper computers with Vericut? Vericut is recommending AMD for their software.

I also got a quote from Xi for an i9-13900KF workstation (MTower PCIe) "Pro Desktop".

Does anyone use this computer?

The problem is justifying the cost.
If you have Management that actually looks at the ROI,
and an IT team that loves this stuff, you might pull it off. ;D
Just calculate ROI on 10k, how many hours will you save programming in one year?
What is your hourly wage?
How much less coffee will you need? 8)

The cost is around $6700 for the computer to replace my POS Dell as my programming computer. I'm also getting a replacement Vericut computer but they're recommending AMD. I had a AMD computer in the late nineties to early 2000's. It was a great furnace in the winter time. ;D Sadly it was also a great furnace in the summertime. It was a good computer but I was using it mostly for online poker so it didn't get much of a workout.

I only drink coffee at work on Saturdays so I'm already at my low limit.

I'm recommending getting 2 Xi MTower PCie Workstations for Mastercam and Vericut.

Xi MTower PCIe Workstation
Intel Core i9-13900kf @ 5.5GHz All P-Cores
32GB DDR4-3200 memory
NVIDIA® RTX™ A5500 Graphics
500GB M.2 NVMe SSD PCIe Gen3 x4
1-Gigabit Ethernet LAN
Microsoft® Windows® 10Pro

IT probably isn't going to like it since it isn't a Dell but our Second in Command owns Xi stock so he may help with the purchase.

Nice machine
I'd bump that hard drive to 1 terabyte
I've amazing how fast hard drives file up these days and it's only a couple of hundred $$ more

Most everything we write goes to our server across the street so not much will be saved on this hard drive. Besides, if I ever did need more hard drive space I would bet there are 50 drives that IT could throw in at half the cost.

Edit: I just looked on my current hard drive and everything that Ive kept for thirty+ years amounts to 193 GB.
