I can't even count the number of colonoscopy's and sigmoidoscopy's I've had in the last 3 years battling my UC. I usually tell them to knock me out and let's see what the asshole behind me has to say. 😁

do the colonoscopy with no sedation. I had one done last December that way. It is not as bad as what people think it is. I hate sedation and the few hours after. As it was, I was able to walk in, get the camera up the butt, walk out, jump in my truck & go to a restaurant.

Not painful at all. I would describe it as being uncomfortable.

Is it possible to schedule a 2 fer 1 colonoscopy prostate exam? Kill two birds with one stone?

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Just be sure to avoid making eye contact with the doctor while he is inserting the camera, it gets kind of weird then.

True story:  On my last colonoscopy, as I was being wheeled into the procedure room, the stereo was playing "I can't fight this feeling".  It seemed an odd choice of music for the occasion...

Nurse brought that up but I had no clue what to expect.

Last time I was going under, last thing the doc had going was the skit from SNL...

I've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell.(as he's ringing the cowbell)

In my opinion though the anesthesia woman lacked confidence. No way a few tokes of weed 15 hrs before procedure would have caused any issues. Studies show that users generally require more sedation. She should have personally come to me to discuss it and not the nurse. Medical field seems to timid to me anymore. Most can't even do an IV  Whole thing was silly to me.

After having it done without sedation I can say it is the only I will ever have one done. Once I got over the awkwardness of the situation it wasn't bad at all. Not depending on someone to drive you around after the procedure is nice also. I can understand why many would choose not to be awake...it is kinda weird seeing it live on the screen. I was talking to the Dr about it & he was saying that a lot of people do tense up without sedation, which could cause pain and also make the Dr hurry & possibly not do as good of a job.

Having awakened in the middle of the procedure I can tell you I will be using anesthesia every time. It was quite painful. I tried it with light sedation, also. I was just about asleep when the pain woke me right up.

Everyone is different.

Yup...

and since I have had several polyps removed over the years and I am on a 3 year cycle, I feel no need to try to prove I'm "manly" by going without...that's a hardpass

I heard drinking Bud Light before a colonoscopy makes it much easier.......  :o

I was on a five year cycle; last time I was a year late. Now I go back in a year. I'm glad I didn't wait much longer.

I am on the same cycle - polyp removal is painless. You can't feel it. its weird watching it on the screen, seeing them "lasso" the polyp - but you can't feel it. At the worst the whole procedure is uncomfortable, for me. Tho like Mowens said, everyone is different. The only reason I tried it was because I hate the after effects of sedation.

My first colonoscopy they gave me an anesthetic that knocked me out for pretty much the whole day, just laying in bed drifting in and out of sleep.

The last time they had changed the medication to something else that wore off really quickly and you were back to normal a couple hours so the experience now might be very different than it was 10 or more years ago.
