I had measles, mumps and chicken pox all when I was little.

I remember seeing the red dots from the measles in the mirror when my mom was holding me.

There is a guy i work with  that has The shingles and it never goes away so they say if you get it as a Adult which is just the Chicken Pox or is it the measles but which ever its best to have it as a kid , I asked him if he had shingles or the measles as a kid if i recall he said yes but he did not get the vax, He showed the scabs all over his torso and said it hurts like hell and it burns  constantly but what i saw looks like he was rolling down the road with no shirt on just so he could have road rash . He said it sucks since you can get flare ups a couple times a year and its the same thing over and over and if you scratch it it only spreads more. I asked him if he had the choice would he get the jab and he said in a heartbeat if it would have kept him from getting it. I had wondered about this particular 60's flashback and did not know or had even heard about shingles until a Friend had told me someone in her family had got shingles  and she told her its something you do not want to have. At that time i don't think there was a shot for it. But after seeing the co worker with it i looked into that and got the Pneumonia Shot and the Shingles shot before the covid had a sore arm for about a week but other than that once the arm stopped being sore it was fine, Also I had Chicken pox, mumps and all the fun kid stuff as a youth, And yes we all had the disease parties / sleepovers to help spread it all over and get the natural anti bodies just for that reason. so The parties really were a Thing  everyone i ever knew did the same in there Neighborhoods. :coffee:

Chicken pox and Shingles are different.  They are though both caused by the Chicken pox virus...

Chicken pox as we know are the raised blisters on the skin that are insanely itchy...

Shingles generally presents on the nerves running just under the skin. Those raised areas are exceedingly tenderto touch and usually cause pain, tending to excruciating.

The story i got from DR's was if you had Chicken pox as a kid  that you do have a Higher chance of getting shingles as an Adult.
Kind of like this
Shingles is caused by varicella-zoster virus (VZV), the same virus that causes chickenpox. Once a person has chickenpox, the virus stays in their body. The virus can reactivate later in life and cause shingles.

Cause and Transmission | CDC
Which is why you get the jab for the shingles if you want to ??
People also ask
Can you get shingles if you had childhood chickenpox?
Anyone who's had chickenpox may develop shingles. After you recover from chickenpox, the virus enters your nervous system and stays inactive for years. Sometimes the virus reactivates and travels along nerve pathways to your skin — producing shingles. But not everyone who's had chickenpox will develop shingles.Aug 20, 2022

Pretty much everyone I know with the exception of a very few have had chicken pox.
Yeah, that was a real thing. I got the measles many times along the other child deceases. Other than high temperatures I never felt sick with exception to the mumps. I had a week long bad sore throat with that one.

Hi Neuro:

I've had the shingles vax (Shingrix, I believe....2 shots some time apart), and my arm was sore both times, but I don't recall feeling bad as some here have described. I have not gotton the disease itself and hope not to!

My last employee had shingles (not sure if he had been vaxed or not), and said it was quite awful. A fellow I worked for years ago got it some years back, and it left him unable to work for some period of time.

My brother got shingles (another lousy experience as he tells it) and did have the shingles vax. I recall my doctor recommending it, and he said that Shingrix was supposedly considered more effective (~80%?) than the previous one, but that there were no guarantees obviously. My brother takes a medication that slightly dials back his immune system, so I'm not sure if that could have been a factor or not.

I know lots of folks cringe at the thought of colonoscopy, but if my experience was any indication, it was nothing to be afraid of. The prep can be somewhat unpleasant, but all in all it wasn't that bad. A fellow who works across the parking lot got scoped and learned that he had a tumor, but is healthy again after surgery and chemo...he's glad he got checked out!

I think the "poop in a box" test is looking for chemical evidence of something bad growing inside you, but as far as I know a colonoscopy is still considered the gold standard. As a bonus, if they find polyps they excise them during the procedure and then have them biopsied.

While I try not to obsess over health stuff, I also don't want to ignore things in the hopes that they'll "just go away", either. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as they say!

Like The DR said if you have a compromised immune system and your over 50  get the jab even if you have had chicken pox as a kid   the age factore looks like the shelf life of the chicken pox wears off for the immunity dose from the kid chicken pox . But the Shingrix  jab should do it for the next 50 .

My story of getting shingles....About 3 years ago I was spending the night at a motel about 1 and a half hours away from my house.  (A casino).  About 6:00 AM I awoke to what I thought was a bad leg cramp.  I managed to get out of bed and tried to stretch my leg, but the pain wouldn't go away.  So I headed for home.

I found out that it wasn't a leg cramp, instead it was a cyst that had burst in my left calf.  When it ruptured it also tore the surrounding ligaments.  I'm on blood thinners for the rest of my life, because of a different medical condition.  This means I bruise really easily.  Anyway, this trauma to my leg brought on shingles.  So here I was bedridden for about 2 weeks, with EXTREMELY PAINFULL SHINGLES!

Shingles can kill some of your nerve endings.  You usually have it on one side or the other of your body.  In my case it was my right side, basically the rash/blisters wrapped around my right side.  I still have bouts of pain in the area on my back where the rash was.  And the area on my stomach is somewhat numb.

My advice is get the damn vax!  I got the vax after that, because it was so...painful, and I didn't want to go through that again!!  No side effects from either of the shots, except my arm was a little sore.

You can only get shingles two ways. Direct contact with shingles rash of another person or having had chicken pox.

yup.. I had one about 15 years ago and they cut out a couple of polyps.
They told me to come back in 5 years
I didn't get around to it for 7 but when I did I mentioned the previous visit.

If I'd said it was a routine check it would have been free ( ObamaCare)
but because of what I said when I made the appointment it cost me a $1K

and Incog was right... it was an Indian doctor

I do have to say, I really like my new primary care physician.  She's 100% about getting to the source of issues rather than just prescribing band-aid medications.

I went in with high blood pressure and she went straight to diagnosing the issue.

When I went in on Friday my blood pressure was down to 130/67. That's the best it's been in 5 years.

Because of one of the medicines I'm on my doctor told me to get the Shingrix shot. My wife also has gotten it done. Both of us both jabs zero problems.
