Some 20 odd years ago my wife worked with a guy in his late 30's/early 40's
He owned a very successful business, had a beautiful wife and 2 boys on their way to successful.
careers and families of their own.

Next door lived a beautiful young girl, 16 going on 25.
One night at a neighborhood block party, he and the girl were caught by her mother in a sexually
comprising situation. Both swore nothing more than heavy petting occurred.
The mother tried extorting him for $$$.

He refused to pay and the mother went to the police.
Now we have a local DA running for reelection and aspiring to higher office
a vindictive mother, and a grown man accused of a sexual relations with a 16 year
old girl.
He was convinced it was not a big deal and made a poor choice for a defense lawyer.
The lawyer was well known and connected, but he too aspired to bigger things.

He was offered a pretty good deal, probation and no prison time, but he'd be a registered sexual offender for life.
He refused the deal and it went to trial. In hind sight, this was a very bad decision.
He was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years.
After the trial the girl came forward and said her mother had put her up to it as a premeditated
extorsion attempt.

He was sent to a state prison up north and lost 2 separate appeals.
Because it was a sexual crime against a minor there would be no parole or time off for good behavior.
He would do the full ride, 15 years.

His wife divorced him and the mother sued him. She eventually lost.

After several years in prison up north he got a transfer to Norco State Prision ( Hotel California)
to be closer to his boys.
In the 1920's it was a luxury hotel, now it's an old decrepit mold and rat infested shit hole.
He started having lung and breathing issues and was in and out of prison hospitals for
the remainder of his sentence. Doctors never definitively diagnosed his lung condition
but attributed it to his stay in Hotel California.

He was released about 4 years ago and had 3 years on formal parole wearing an ankle monitor
and being hounded daily by a rabid parole officer.

His health start going hard south and in the last 2 years he's had a lung transplant, open heart surgery
and kidney failure. He's been on dialysis for about nine months and died last night at 61 following.
a stroke this weekend.

The bottom line, his life was over the second he let his guard down with that young girl.

I'm not either.
I knew him and he was a real nice guy.
When my wife and I needed help moving, he showed up with a 28ft cargo truck
his two teenaged boys and 2 employees from his business, made short work
of a tough job and didn't even ask for gas money.

I'm sure the actual truth is different from what I heard and know about his trouble.

What I do know is that one bad decision, fueled by too much booze, a pretty underaged girl
and instigated by her gold digging mother, utterly destroyed his life.

Well, I hope that young Lady has the courage to visit his Funeral and speak the truth.

Not so much for Him but for his Ex and Sons. Knowing the situation might help.

One of my ex's from Texas accused me of putting my hands on her . I was jailed.

I later recorded her admitting it never happened. Gave it to the D.A. charges dropped.

But she did not tell my sons.

They still think it happened. She also told them I never paid Support.

I have a printout of the $104,000 I paid. In fact I over paid and Texas sent checks back.

My Point is The truth can set you free... But it will Not change the past. :ouch:

You never know with stuff like this.
He could have been banging the girl for months and she lied about her
mother cause she loved him.

True but after 15 years eventually the truth sneaks out. Either by him or her.

lol. most people think of freedom as the ability to say yes or no.

I think of it like this quote from Robert Barron:
Quotefreedom is the disciplining of desire, so as to make the achievement of the good first possible and then effortless

think of it in terms of the freedom Van Halen had on the Guitar. He first learned the discipline of the rules of music and then used that discipline to have complete freedom on the fret board. If he assumed he had the freedom to just play whatever notes he wanted no matter what key the song was in, he would have been terrible.

If he would have done that in Kansas, it would have been legal.
