Those who control the money like to buy whatever they can get the best deal on around here. Matsuura, OKK, Okuma, Quaser, Smart, we're like a melting pot. Fanuc, OSP, Siemens, YASNAC.

"Can you repost that for machine x" is a common phrase. About 35 mills 3, 4, 5 axis, and a single multis. Very few are similar to one another

It's like you're working for one of my previous employers. However that's not likely as they're long out of business.

LOL...
I just found out our new machine is coming tomorrow, which just happens to be the first day of my vacation.

Oh well...

I have a very good Operator who will be here when they bring in the machine so at least I know he will make sure the idiots won't put the dang thing in sideways or ass-backwards.  :harhar:

That's us.. or at least that used to be us.
We have one big horizontal boring mill that was a trade show special.
It has a Heidenheim control and they saved a whopping $15k on that machine.

We've given that $15K back 20 times over, reprogramming stuff.
The machine sits a lot too as we only have one or 2 people who know how to run it.

We have thirteen Okumas all with P300 controls. All our robots except for one are ABB and the automation is nearly identical for all lathes and mills. It keeps things simple and easy to run.

How many machines you guys have?

It's funny what the penny pinchers will do to pinch one more penny.

Our most recent one-off machine is an OKK HM-X8000 5-axis horizontal. Not a single 5-axis horizontal in the building. Had to get a brand new post and not a single guy on the floor knows how to run it, what a great buy.

mkd

Heidenhain mill control with turning option can do automated 'B axis' turning where the control figures out the necessary clearance tilt as to not collide with modeled machine elements. You just give it the contour referenced in a cycle.
BOOM!

you remember this machine
it's a medium size 4X HBM in the back building
it's a very good machine... and the control has got all kinds of neat stuff
no one knows how to use.

Yeah, is cowboy-Will still running it? it's bad to have so many controls in one shop. Too many other ways to get killed there figuratively and literally.
I've been doing Heidy AE stuff and have become a fan.

No he was forced into retirement due to health issues about 5 years ago.
It's set up on a big LTA part... and it sits or runs depending on the customer's
requirements any given week.
