We have a guy here who even after being repeatedly told not to open any email that looks suspicious or that he doesn't know the sender, still does and then comes and asks about it after.

We've been lucky so far but I can see us getting bit eventually.  This guy is a friend of a friend of the owner so he gets a free pass when he does dumb things.

This guy is in his 70's and not that it should matter, but is Vietnamese. I don't know if this is a stereotype, but he's VERY stubborn. To the point of if you tell him to do something, he will do the opposite just because you told him to.

To be fair they did ask 'kindly'.  :fun:

90% sure that if you use the mill-turn product, you have to use software licensing. We were on HASP & Net-HASP for the longest time. A couple of years ago updating to the latest version of Mastercam mill-turn became a nightmare with the HASP setup. It would take a couple of hours to get different files and codes sent back & forth before things would sort itself out. Switching to the software license made that painless.

I am sure that any new seats of mill-turn require the software licensing. HASP is not even an option.

When I started here in 2015, they bought a Mill-Turn license...at that point we were on a NetHasp....a few years before I took over this office, we were changed over to software licensing....I am pretty certain we made that change then because IT wanted to move to a VMWare virtual server and only the software licensing would do it..

I do know when I still had a Dealer Hasp that Mill-Turn would run off of that as well....

Now, we're a few years down the road so has that changed, I cannot speak to that what "has" to be now.

We are running a nethasp on a virtual server
we can't update the hasp with new maintenance codes on the virtual server, but it
runs OK

I got an update from hyperMill this morning
hyperMill uses Wibu Systems/codemeter.
Mastercam uses Wibu Systems as well.
The update contained the following notice.
I think it's safe to assume this had something to do with Mastercam's software licensing server being down for
more than a week.

QuoteOur partner Wibu Systems has informed us about a vulnerability in their software protection CodeMeter, which is used in hyperMILL. CodeMeter can be used to compromise the security of your network servers.
To increase your security, we therefore strongly recommend updating your network license server to the current version 7.60c of the CodeMeter software.
hyperMILL 2023.2 | Update 7 and Update 6 will do this as soon as you also apply the update to your licence server.

Certainly sounds like it.

You have Hypermill as well? I had no idea you were running it. How do you like it?

and I come in this morning to find our anti-malware software has quarantined 3 files...2 that are contained within the 2024-web.exe SetupPrequisites and another in system 32 wmiprvse.exe

Now false positive? I am suspect because of the reference to network tools and I am also a bit confused as this also almost certainly involved CNC software as well, yet as of 6:57am this morning there has been NO COMMUNICATION on it.

Edit: So I just sent an email with the screen shot of what the software found to QC and reseller tech support asking

I use it for roughing our vanes. It works OK for that. Other than that I don't use it at all.

What antimalware software are you using?
We're running BitDefender End Point Security and have had no issues like this
At home I'm running Bitdefender Central with no issues either.

We had an issue with BitDefender issuing a flase positive last year and our IT dept submitted it to BitDefender.  It was fixed in the next definitions release.

So far I've gotten 2 calls that say "no issues that we're aware of"

Maybe that's the case...I just found the timing exceedingly curious
