Quote from: neurosis on February 17, 2024, 10:50 AMNo, you guys are sitting here defending someone for fucking over small business and then blaming the small business.

Reuters reviewed more than 50 court cases and liens from contractors related to Trump projects in New York, Atlantic City, Miami and West Palm Beach, and interviewed dozens of people who have done construction jobs or legal work for him. The majority said they were paid in full and happy to work for him but at least a dozen said they had been left out of pocket or had watched as other contractors were short-changed.

Quote from: neurosis on February 17, 2024, 10:31 AMWhat Trump was doing went beyond "standard practice". It's pointed out in the WSJ article. He was just a straight up piece of shit.  Are you really defending nefarious business practices right now? I see why you support him if you think that's ok.

Yet nobody had an issue before he became a Republican. He's been in business for what 50 years? Was friends with all the Oprah's, Jesse Jackson's, Clinton's, etc before he came out as a Republican. After he came out he's the most evil man in the world. So it's okay for a Democrat to do it but not a Republican?

That's not true. There were plenty of people who had a problem with him. It just wasn't as publicized as it is now.

The documentaries I watched were before he ran for president.

I'm sure the common perception, especially on this forum, is that I hated him after he ran, but the fact it, I hated him before because of his shit business practices.  When he ran, I thought it was a joke and that nobody in their right mind would vote for that trash.  I was super wrong.

President Camacho at  your service.

I take that as a compliment.

Thanks.

Although, I try not to insult people until they insult me first.    :headscratch: I can't remember if that was true with Smit?

So I'm the one with the hard head for having an opinion that doesn't align with yours? And you're the one that is so enlightened?

Your opinion won't change. Mine will. If there is proof Trump knowingly cheated a contractor I would be on the contractors side but I wouldn't hate Trump for it. I don't have your business insight. But as I do with my wife, I'll just say I was wrong and you are right.

Yet Mr. Trump's withholding of payments stood out as particularly aggressive in the industry and in the broader business world, said some vendors who had trouble getting paid.
It is "a strong-arm tactic that is frowned on," said Wayne Rivers, a small-business consultant in construction. The tactic is more common in Northeast construction than in other regions, he said, and is abnormal in much of American business.
Mr. Trump pushed the approach beyond construction and into day-to-day casino operations, said Jack O'Donnell, president of Mr. Trump's Plaza casino in Atlantic City in the late 1980s. "Part of how he did business as a philosophy was to negotiate the best price he could. And then when it came time to pay the bills," he said, Mr. Trump would say that " 'I'm going to pay you but I'm going to pay you 75% of what we agreed to.' "
