Kids will figure out a way to get past the ban.  Yet everyone who can't will be required to submit an image of their photo id for age verification.   Politicians are stupid.

That is pretty much true of all laws, isn't it? That laws tend to be honored by people who are law abiding? It's always worth watching, though, when a state tries something new to see if it works. but it's not just the kids who are clever when it comes to getting around the law. If you have to provide more information to the tech companies, it's more info that they have to sell. But even if they are not selling it, I flat out don't trust them to keep that info safe.

I can see it being exactly like alcohol manufacturers websites. "Are you of legal social media age? *YES* *NO* "

gcode

The NRA website requires you to enter your birthday to enter the site but you can enter date that makes
you 18 or older.
I think that's just a Commiefornia thing.. but it's absolutely useless for keeping kids out.
It's just another irritating thing about living in Commiefornia.

They will require anyone inside of Florida (determined by IP address) to "prove" their age. It won't be as simple as clicking on a yes or no.  Look at the Texas ban on Pornhub and how that was dealt with and how that turned out.

The alcohol site example is similar to what gaming sites do when the game is rated 17 and older.  It's honor system but there isn't a ban on the game for people 17 and under just like people under 21 aren't banned from viewing a liquor site.  Try to buy some liquor and you'll have to prove your age.

I have to be honest with you. I can't tell when you're joking and when you're being serious.

As far as the law degree   I'm just making assumptions based on how they're already verifying age on social media platforms where it's required.

https://www.fox13news.com/news/floridas-new-social-media-law-how-will-it-be-enforced

QuoteAccording to Facebook, a user can verify their age by uploading a photo of their ID, or by taking a selfie video which is then sent to a third-party company called Yoti, which uses artificial intelligence to determine how old someone is by looking at facial features. The system is trained using images of people from all over the world of different ages.

And as far as liability goes -

Quote"These social media platforms are now liable for between $10,000 and $50,000 per violation if a child is on that website and the parental consent is inaccurate or if it's a 13-year-old or someone under the age of 13 who is still on that website," Rickman said.

Apparently, my IP address says I'm in Texas. I get lots of ads for Texas products and services. I can understand the occasional one for Oklahoma. I'm only about 50 north of the border; but Texas is a whole state away.

Is that on a home pc or your phone?

I'm getting pizzagate level technocratic pedo vibes from a software company whose neural network model is designed to identify 11 year olds from front facing phone camera footage. Also "just send us well lit video of your face so we can attach it, and our 3D data created from it, to your name and online persona - and we totally won't use it for facial recognition systems"

Reminds me, I saw a CCTV warning poster in a Walmart over the weekend, about 8 feet off the ground, tucked in to a corner above the entrance. To paraphrase: "This store uses a camera system to maintain security, and also to identify customers by age, race and shopping habits for advertising and metrics". Time to move out to the farm, boys, if you've got one.

Now that I think about it, mostly my phone. I don't use my home pc that often.

I'm not quite pizzagate worried about it. Technically it's to determine if your old enough, not too young.  I don't like the idea of sending video's and images to some third party. Then again I could never understand why people post 100's of photos of their children and home on social media.

Sending a picture of my photo id or a credit card would be out of the question.

Some times your phone ip will reflect the location of the service provider rather than your current location.

That hasn't slowed your Pornhub viewing at all however.  :harhar:
