2 things I've learned living in NW Oregon,
They commonly use Plastic pipe (PVC) from the Water meter to the home.
The first time I saw this after moving here I just laughed. No Copper?
Many homes in my area have had underground leaks. (I'm probably next because I mentioned it)
Looks like all the plumbers are using PEX now.
And, our little town decided to replace the old water meters with new fancy 4G digital meters.
The first area they converted all of a sudden had $400.00 water bills show up.
Should have seen that City Council Meeting....."Oh sorry, we had had a glitch in our software" :o

I have the new meters also where all they have to do is drive by.

My first guess is a leaking toilet.... or a leak in your sprinkle system if you have one.
Where is your water meter?
Any chance a neighbor has jacked into your lines on your side of the meter.
That happens way more than you'd think.
I'd ask the water company to come out and check the meter too.

I have a toilet that needs replacing. It uses too much water flushing. We just use a lot of water. We have a garden and flowers everywhere that we plant every year.

I don't trust those. I think, if they have a technical problem they just guess on the high side.

Have you thought about drilling a well? That's what most of the people around here do for the yards.

Unless it uses like 10 gallons per flush keep it. You likely won't find a better one unless you spend more. And you'll never offset the cost of the water savings with just two people in the house.

You guys pay for your water???? 5000 gallons in a month does seem like a lot

Yes we do pay. Our water usage is also used to calculate our sewer bill at 1:1. Not real bad on cost though. My bill for gas, water, sewer and sanitation plus taxes was $145 this month.

Does that include trash pickup?
