I guess lunch musta been worth waiting for....

As I said, he was a good attorney. Young mom, no record. And frankly, the guy probably deserved it.

He walked into the woman's house without knocking so self defense wasn't so far fetched. But, she found out that he was cheating with her landlord; she was waiting for him in a chair with a gun under the cushion. And she shot at him 5 more times after he ran out the door.

and in North Korea, but I don't recommend the justice systems based on that.

That points to premeditated to me. Almost lying in wait. Which is the textbook definition of murder.

Unlike what the cop in Minneapolis was convicted of. That wasn't "murder" by anyone but an ignorant, illiterate fool. Manslaughter "maybe", but not murder. Besides, George Floyd was dying that day no matter what. He was a walking OD. But I digress.

Btw...a follow-up to my jury duty case involving the young woman who was raped and robbed in her own home by a guy who turned out to be her next-door neighbor's boyfriend.

The jury found the guy guilty on all counts, so we were dismissed after doing our part in the trial.
The judge held a separate sentencing hearing at a later date which we did not attend, but I saw it in the local newspaper.
The guy was 26 years old at the time of the crime, and the judge sentenced him to 26 to 54 years in prison.

As a juror, I am 100% convinced we reached the correct verdict given the evidence and testimony we were presented with, and I personally have ZERO regrets over the decision.

I do still feel for the victim as she tries to move forward with her life after such a traumatic experience.
She testified that almost a year after the attack she was still having trouble sleeping, and when she did manage to sleep she still had frequent nightmares about it.
She has been in therapy for PTSD ever since the attack (2019), so I hope she is making progress.

I also feel sad in a way for the perpetrator for throwing his life away such at an early age, but I also remind myself that he was 100% responsible for his actions that night, and he has nobody to blame but himself.

We ALL make choices in life.

Every day I walk around free, I am grateful I never got caught in my teens for the stuff I did. As much blow as I had on numerous occasions, pretty sure I would have been tried as an adult. I would have never met mynwife. I would most certainly not have the imperfect yet amazing life I have today. To say I was lucky... thatnwould be the understament of the millennium.

Fortunately,or not, she only hit the guy once in the upper arm. The judge sentenced her right then to 5 years in the state pen. He told us afterward that our decision was "eminently correct".

Yup.
In our jury case, the guy admitted on the witness stand that he and a few buddies had been drinking and shooting pool at a friend's house earlier that evening, and there was a strong suspicion from other witnesses that there may have been some illegal drug use going on there as well.

Not saying that is an excuse for his actions, but if he was drunk / high at the time of the crime, it does explain his seemingly reckless actions if his senses were dulled and his inhibitions were lowered by the alcohol and possibly drugs.

But either way, he did what he did, and he drastically altered his own life and the life of his victim.
Given the brutality of his crimes, placing him in the prison system is a far better alternative than letting him roam the streets freely and have the opportunity to do the same thing to someone else.

I believe financial hardship is a valid reason to be excused from jury duty, but that may vary from state to state.
