I've been telling them for a year that there is going to be an issue designing in NX and using Catia with our programming software. The part is supposed to run across the machine in two months and the engineering isn't complete. We finally got an engineer involved who is not fresh out of college and knows there isn't a magic button that you push to spit out a program.
If the engineering was perfect and done in Catia we would still be hard pressed to get this finished in the time frame they're looking at.

There is an NX model interface module we can get for our VCP software; once we read NX in, we can export it back out as a Catia file if we need to manipulate the geometry.

NX is the favored software for many defense contractors; however, Catia is used much more widely throughout the factory. Much of our R&D work is not as tightly controlled as this project.

Well, a little update.

We now have access to NX, which includes Fibersim. My coworker was a Mastercam user for 7 years before coming here and says that he's a lot more comfortable with NX because it's a lot like Mastercam. Having not used Mastercam for over 20 years, I'll take his word for it. I'm not a fan.

Catia and NX (or Mastercam) remind me of the English and the French. We're civil, but we don't really like each other.
