So... Android. 😁

I am the ONLY one in my family not in the Apple ecosystem other than my grandkids that have Gabb phones.

Quote from: neurosis on June 22, 2024, 06:43 AMI've never owned an i-phone. I thought about it in the past but didn't want to get sucked in to that eco system. You'll have to post back after having it for a while and give a review.
It's great, nothing out of the ordinary for setup, you make an apple ID if u want for features like find my phone if u want it, you have to give permission for absolutely everything, so it's more secure. Siri is good, the pictures are amazing. Plus most people people are using iphone now so I kind of felt like I didn't fit in not having one..

I'm trying to grow my following on social media too so I need a good phone, I mostly post reshares but I take a lot of stories, I just broke 2500 stories and 100 reels to give u an idea

I've had it 3 years now
I had my previous Samsung 5 years and never even got a scratch.
My current phone got a bad scratch on day 2
Never did figure out how.
My next phone will be a Samsung too.

Quote from: CNCAppsJames on June 22, 2024, 01:59 PMThey do all have their pluses and minuses. Massive annoying AF is my wife's phone is ALWAYS listening. So when we're driving around town and say "look honey, a batteries plus, that'll come in handy." And she'll get battery ads on her phone for weeks. Of course I bring up firearms stuff and nothing. Fuckin' commies.
Iphone let's u manage that stuff, it cost facebook billions in ad revenue when the changes happened, maybe a year or two ago

Wife and I are also in the Android / Samsung club.
Our kids are all Apple users, but we have no issues with calling, texting, video chatting, etc.

My current phone is a Galaxy Note 10+ which I have had for I think around 3 years.
In fact, Verizon keeps bugging me about my next upgrade, but meh, this one still works great.

Speaking of Verizon, that leads us to a sidebar conversation about providers...

My wife has been looking into switching our plan from Verizon to Patriot Mobile, so I will probably wait for that and get the free upgrade that comes with new plans.
As soon as our current Verizon contract is finished we will be making the switch.

She did all of the calculating and she concluded we will save quite a bit of money by switching.
My only concern is that we will be using the Sprint / T-Mobile network, and I'm not sure how good the coverage is in our area.
My son had T-Mobile years ago when he lived at home and it was terrible, but that was a long time ago, so I hope it has improved.

The new ones are flat...

There's some accessible features on the curve (right side... Swipe left on it and it brings up common apps and then favorite people. Not worth the grief IMHO.

I used to switch between the iPhone & Galaxy every other phone. Then 4 or 5 years ago I went from a Galaxy S6 to an iPhone 7 plus or ultra or whatever the fuck the top model was. I was way disappointed in the camera performance going from a galaxy that was 2 generations older than the iPhone. There was no comparison, the Galaxy camera was vastly superior. I kept the iPhone for a couple of years, went back to Galaxy (I think it was an S20 Ultra). That lasted a couple of years before the camera took a shit on me. I found a deal on a S22 Ultra & that is my current phone. I am curious to try the latest iPhone, but camera performance is the most important part of a phone for me (I take a lot of pics) and am hesitant to go back & see how the iPhone has progressed.

My daughter sends me videos and pictures from her Iphone to my Android and the quality sucks. Don't know why. I have been on T-mobile for 20 years and can count on one hand how many times I have not had a signal.

My wife has an iPhone and she's always said my pictures were better. She and I got phones at the same time so whatever was Apple's latest and greatest when the  S22 Ultra was about 6 months old.

Good to know.
You are in the Wichita area, right?

I'm in Northeast Pa. (Scranton area) which is around 3X LESS populated than Wichita, so we are still considered to be out in the country compared to your big city!

I think the Sprint / T-Mobile coverage is decent here now, but not 100% sure.
It used to be terrible, but that was all of 20 years ago too.

We'll find out if / when we switch.
I like the fact that Patriot Mobile doesn't require a contract, so if it doesn't pan out we can always switch back to Verizon.

Well, I drove from Wichita to Minot North Dakota with no issues. Of course, there were long stretches when I wasn't using the phone.

I got my first cell phone around 1996... give or take a year. LA Cellular was our provider IIRC... which was promptly bought or merged with AirTouch, which then merged with Vodafone to create Vodafone AirTouch in the late 90's, then around 2000 Vodafone AirTouch  became Verizon.

Through work I've had AT&T, Nextel, and Sprint. All were complete dogshit compared to Verizon in the greater Los Angeles area and even worse out in the boonies AND in the areas I travel (pretty much everywhere west of the Rocky Mountains). While today AT&T and T-Mobile are far better than they were in the past, when I ride with sales guys with other carriers and we're in remote areas, I almost always have coverage and a lot of times they do not. Oh sure, their phone DISPLAYS 5-Bars  (you can literally make software show anything you want) and mine shows like 1 or two bars, but I'm doing tech support with no drops in calls and their calls are cutting out. Also, I use my phone for GPS and with few exceptions I maintain coverage everywhere I go. Zion, Arches, Bryce, Yellowstone, etc... have a LOT of spots where there is little to no coverage. Grand Tetons has coverage pretty much everywhere. Gotta make sure those billionaires in Jackson Wyoming have their cell service ya know... :coffee:

I KNOW I could save money getting away from Verizon, but IDGAF about anything BUT coverage, fancy ads, catchy commercials, hot chicks, whatever... nothing matters if the service isn;t nearl flawless. If I could afford it, I'd go with a Sat phone because coverage is THAT important to me.

Back in the early to mid 2000's a few of my friends and I decided to get Sprint phones because they had that walkie-talkie feature. Being able to communicate easily was fun until the novelty wore off. Then you just realized what garbage service Sprint had.

The one strange thing about those Sprint phones. For some reason we got service way up in the mountains when no other carrier had service. They must have had a tower hidden up there or something.  We would go camping/jeeping several times a year and I would be the only one with a signal.

I think the Nextel/Spring Push To Talk feature communicated on a different band than cell calls. That was a useful feature, but agreed... annoying at the same time.

Maybe it's just the younger generation who're into the iphones... I've got the iphone 15

The past few black Fridays I go in and trade up to the newest iphone. It's typically about half price, which is still $400-500, but way better than full price
