We have a lot of crappy weather in Kansas but usually not -15 air temperature. We've been between 0 and 12 most of this week but Sunday our low will be -6 and Monday we're expecting -15. If the wind is blowing like it is today our wind chill could be -30 or lower. I know for some on here that's a normal winter day. I only have room for one car in my garage and that's reserved for my Mustang. I was thinking about getting an engine heater, like a dipstick heater for my daily driver. I was also thinking about hanging a bare light bulb in the engine compartment.
Any thoughts on that?
I had originally planned on driving my Mustang but we're supposed to get up to 10 inches of snow and a 435 hp rear wheel drive v8 doesn't fair to well on ice and snow. As a last resort I'll park it in the drive way and put my work car in the garage, providing the Mustang will start.

I Like the Dipstick if you can set it up to hang out the front of The Grill. Just Unplug and Roll. Don't park facing the wind.
Antifreeze correct?

And Lastly is a decent Battery.

Hanging the Light bulb ain't gonna work in any wind. Plus ya gotta pop the hood to get it out.
And good luck finding a Regular 60w Bulb anywhere. Maybe a feed store.

You can do like Beth in yellowstone and toss a water trough heater in there. But Her Nips were still perky in that water.

Mustang is too low to the ground leave it Parked. Unless you want to plow with it.

It's been -11, -12, thereabouts a few times over the past few days here.  I leave my cars out on the driveway, they start fine.  No engine heaters.  Just need a decent battery.

I Like the Heaters it avoids a cold start. Hard on Engines, cold start no oil flow. sometimes runs for two minutes with no Oil thick viscosity. This works best on Older Models. If it's whining and continues to whine for a Moment. That's a cold Start. Dipstick heaters are a CHEAP way to extend engine life. You are a looser !!! Nuff said.

And No I would Not put one in the Stang.

"Looser" Matt Not Mike. LOL!!!

Never have used anything and have always parked outside. We have had cold like that many times. This year has been mild dropping at night to the teens to single digits only a few times. With wind chills in the mornings dropping it to -5 to -10. Remember wind chill does not make your car colder.

QuoteThe National Weather Service Forecast Office explains that objects, such as metal, cannot be cooled beyond the temperature of the air, regardless of wind chill. For example, an inanimate object that is exposed to cold air and low temperatures may become cold rapidly, but unlike people or animals, it is not possible for the inanimate object to be stripped of internal heat. However, some exceptions do apply.

Naw. We care if Del freezes his nards off. You on the other hand.....Meh.... :harhar:

And why in the hell would you stand outside to start your car when you can sit in it or remote start it.  Doombass.

And we were Brady all the way. The Tampa Bay Patriots are my team now.

But seriously living in the Northeast we have weather like this all the time. Never have used anything. Good battery with good cold cranking amps is all you need.
