had a guy that had to have specialist added to his title all the time
if we bought a new tool had to get two one for him one for the shop
used to bitch about getting asked for overtime, "you want to work over' ?  NO i just want to be asked!

Yeah, every place I ever worked had AT LEAST one of those guys, and the bigger places had several.
And yeah, back in the day there were punches thrown in the parking lot when shit got serious.
I can recall seeing at least 3 or 4 of those in my lifetime, and hearing about a few more on different shifts.

Our guy today isn't so much a drama queen but just a chronic complainer.
Bitch, bitch, bitch...always about something.

I don't get it either.  One guy can have a devastating negative affect on shop attitude.

My office is upstairs and across the shop from the area he works in. I've had to run out in the shop at least twice to get between him and someone wanting to hit him with an 8" vise handle or piece of material.   :lol:  There are times that I feel like I could have taken a bit longer to get down there.. like a bathroom break on the way maybe.

our guy was more of a prima donna but he could back it up machining, guy could make anything

Sets the tone in the shop that even you're good and still  POS, your gone, makes an excellent precedence IMO

Yep, if you do any decent amount of work, you're going to screw up from time to time. A fact that everyone knows.

However, there are a lot of insecure wimps out there that are so scared of a little justified criticism, that they've gotta have someone else, anyone else, to blame for their own failures.

John shops nowadays can barely find people let alone good ones. They put up with a lot more crap than they used to. Especially the small ones.

The place I'm at now is a perfect example. Kid there who is good and the lead man from before I started pulled some crap and nothing got done.

 I got called on the carpet after he and the new boss went to lunch one Friday. First words out of the bosses mouth were did you tell him ( the kid ) how much you make. Absolutely not I told him. Well he new how much I made. I told the boss that it needed to be found out how he new and if some one told him how that person new too. Come to find out that on the bosses computer you can access some payroll info and the password is the same on his computer as every other computer. He has been after them to change it but it was not a priority I guess. We figure that is how the kid or somebody else found out. The IT guys were able to tell that his computer got accessed 40 times in 2 months before 7:00 A.M. when one of the owners shows up. There are very few people in the shop at that time and one of them is not my boss. My boss and I talked and we figure the owners do not want to pursue it because they don't want to lose him. I got a few things going on but if I didn't they wouldn't have lost the kid but they would have lost me. I told them that whoever is responsible should be fired for accessing my personal information. Hell they could shave gotten my SS number for all I know.

At the end of the day Brian, it's just excuses from management.

A company simply cannot afford to have a cancer eating away from the inside....

I have seen shops lose good people becasue management would not address the "bad egg", heck, I've been one of those people moving on....

A shop is better off a guy down than trapped with a guy eating away at any kind of cohesive environment

Don't disagree but we are at where we are. I've kept mum a out the whole thing as to not create any problems. I just turned 60 so I'm only a couple or few years from at least semi retirement. Soon as I can I will be out.
