I can't speak for Maine, I don't know what Maine voters want. I do know that the situation in Washington State is similar. Voters here think that trans athletes aren't enough of a problem to ban them from sports. Washington will be just as defiant. I think the State is already preparing to battle Trump over his EO. It hasn't become a National stage issue yet (I don't think) so we haven't suffered the wrath of Trump yet.   I'm sure it's coming.

I'm not a big fan of trans athletes (biological males playing in womens sports) either. I'm also very ignorant on the subject. It's not been a trigger issue for me so I haven't spent a lot of time on it. I'm more concerned with how it's being dealt with. If the majority of parents in Washington State don't mind their children playing with trans athletes, who the hell am I to force my opinion on to them? Almost sounds like a libertarian?

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

They want to get deported to an El Salvador prison indefinitely with no due process?

Quote from: beej on April 04, 2025, 07:27 AMIt's not how I would have handled it. I like your idea better. But at the same time, Smit and I had several discussions about this during the election cycle and he and others said this is a made up republican talking point that is not happening, and not worth taking a stand over. I think that's because it was a losing position in the polls and democrats didn't want it to be brought up. At the time, I remember smit saying there wasn't enough transgender students for this to even be an issue. I had to look it up, Maine claims to have 2 boys playing on girls teams. why is she defying the federal government over 2 boys that could just play on the boys teams? If it's not a big enough issue for republicans to care about, why is it a big enough issue for democrats to care about?

Old Beej loves his culture wars. Alright, you're "trolling" for a response so here is a response. :)

I haven't done exhaustive research but I read there were 3 transgender kids affected by the laws in Kansas, 1 in Kentucky, now you say 2 in Maine. Yes, I get your point. It's a huge problem.

Have those kids been dominating in their sports? Are there a shit ton of records they hold?

So, yeah, I'm gonna say it's not a huge problem. But the way the Republicans go on about it, it's an existential threat. Do you understand why they do that? It's because it works. It's a winning topic for them, which says a lot about us as a country. And with Trump Christians in particular. Republicans love their culture wars.

I don't think the Dems ever really brought any of this up until the Repugs forced the issue. After all, nobody really knew we had a "problem" until the Repugs brought it up.

If dems say "Leave the kids alone" or "it's between their families and their doctors" that's a losing position. I know, it sounds crazy doesn't it?

Now you're going to say it's only about sports but that is, to put it mildly, untrue. The trans kids are being attacked on all sides. You have fucking politicians deciding medical decisions on people they don't have any idea about what they're going through. Wide, sweeping regulations regulating health care decisions based on what? Hate and prejudice being disguised as concern? Or just the cynical desire to inflame voters to vote for them?

I'm sure you're aware the suicide rates on trans kids are very high. I'm sure you wish that wasn't so. I'm also sure you're not going to support legislation that may take any of the stigma away from those kids. Or for that matter refraining from passing legislation about them at all.

I'm not sure you or any other Republican understands that sexuality is a whole lot more complex than just having a dick or pussy.

Does that address your desire for a "debate?"

Do you still think a vindictive government is alright? I mean, as long as it's your side that's being vindictive? The ends justifies the means?

What's so hard about understanding that trans doesn't change your sex. If you want to transition as an adult then nobody cares. You can't compete against girls in sports though. It's unfair to the girls.

The order was rescinded. :)

Kinda like the crazy girlfriend who pours gas all over your car, gets ready light it on fire. Then at the last second, decides to wash the gas off and say's "what? I didn't light it on fire".

Do you stay with her?

Oh fuck, look at who I'm asking.

Based on your statement, apparently quite a lot.

This has never been about the kids, so quit with that bullshit.

Quote from: neurosis on April 04, 2025, 07:08 AMI haven't been following this very closely, but even if that's the case, do you think that vindictively cutting off the States SS contracts is the right approach to solving the problem?

Why is Trump signing EO's and interfering in things that should be left up to the States in the first place? What happened to "leave it up to the States"?  Or is that apparently only when it's convenient?
Because in politics you shouldn't interrupt your opponent doing stupid or in this case, insane stuff. Nobody agrees that putting a dress on a dude makes a dude a chick.
If that's the hill democrats want to die on, I'll pass the sword 🗡⚔️

I care. In California you can be held personally liable in the workplace , for the first time in the Western world, for the feelings of an insane asshole in a dress.
If a dude shows up in a dress to work and insists everyone call them Suzie and compell a lie of using female pronouns, I'm sorry but you are an insane asshole.
My special needs son got canned for saying the wrong thing to thing to .a tranny asshole. Fuck'em.

It does not matter how many and the fact you don't think it's about protecting girls against stronger and bigger males just shows what a dumbass you are. Sheesh! You'd think this is something we could agree on but you go full throttle woke.
