Trump is a deal-maker and was looking for something he could publicize. Instead, the University resisted the change they know they needed, and deny Trump his vainglory.

On cue, Trump escalated to remove their tax-exempt status.

It will be interesting to watch how this plays out. Both sides are heavyweights with virtually unlimited budgets, and some of the smartest legal minds in the world.

A 501(c)3 non profit must demonstrate it is for the public benefit.

I'm a little confused by this one. The Administration sent Harvard a letter with a list of demands that it later said wasn't authorized and was sent by mistake. Then, they blamed Harvard for not questioning the authenticity of the letter.
