Harvard chose to play a dangerous and expensive game. They should have struck a deal with the President rather than file a lawsuit challenging the withholding of federal funds.

Trump is a deal-maker and was looking for something he could publicize. Instead, the University resisted the change they know they needed, and deny Trump his vainglory.

On cue, Trump escalated to remove their tax-exempt status.

It will be interesting to watch how this plays out. Both sides are heavyweights with virtually unlimited budgets, and some of the smartest legal minds in the world.

Famed lawyer, Alan Dershowitz shares your opinion on needing need to make a deal. He says it's not gonna end well at Supreme Court. Racism has consequences.

I don't always agree with Alan Dershowitz, but he ALWAYS makes salient points and gives well reasoned opinions.

All you guys who think it's great Trump wants to control the judicial, control the press, control the education system, control congress (they're very willing to let that happen), and rule by decree (EO) really need to study the definition of patriotism and then compare it to the definition of fascism.

It might be an eye opening exercise for you.

how is insisting that Ivy League colleges follow the law, "controlling the education system"?

the law says all applicants must be treated the same, regardless of race, creed or color.
The Ivy League plays all sorts of silly games to do end runs around these laws, giving special treatment to some
races and black balling others. The courts have repeatedly found their conduct to be illegal yet they persist.

If you actually bothered to learn what was really happening, it might be an eye opening experience for you.

If the law is being broken then prosecute them.

The president has no business ordering private schools, businesses, institutions, etc how to run their affairs. Trump has no business either granting or removing tax exempt status from organizations as a weapon to force them to accede to his demands. He has no business ordering the IRS to

I know you won't do the little exercise I outlined because you just don't give a shit. You're going to support the Repugs no matter what they do.

A 501(c)3 non profit must demonstrate it is for the public benefit.
Please explain how it's defiance of court findings in continued racist policies is in the public interest.

I'm a little confused by this one. The Administration sent Harvard a letter with a list of demands that it later said wasn't authorized and was sent by mistake. Then, they blamed Harvard for not questioning the authenticity of the letter.

""Recipients of such correspondence from the U.S. government—even when it contains sweeping demands that are astonishing in their overreach—do not question its authenticity or seriousness," the spokesperson said.

"It remains unclear to us exactly what, among the government's recent words and deeds, were mistakes or what the government actually meant to do and say," the spokesperson added.

"But even if the letter was a mistake, the actions the government took this week have real-life consequences on students, patients, employees, and the standing of American higher education in the world.""

I don't know if they're still trying to get Harvard to agree to the list of demands in that original letter?

https://www.harvard.edu/research-funding/wp-content/uploads/sites/16/2025/04/Letter-Sent-to-Harvard-2025-04-11.pdf

Whitehouse statement:

""It was malpractice on the side of Harvard's lawyers not to pick up the phone and call the members of the antisemitism task force who they had been talking to for weeks," said May Mailman, the White House senior policy strategist. "Instead, Harvard went on a victimhood campaign.""

It must kill Saagar to have to be so critical of the Trump admin.  And he hates Harvard.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

You know damn well it has nothing to do with the law with these people. Trump has been convicted of actual felonies and they don't give a shit. The only thing that they care about is that their hero is taking actions against the same irrational fears, hatreds, and prejudices they hold dear, and are watching slip away.

and you didn't care when Biden did it. So what! If you did, you sure didn't bring it up.

https://adfmedia.org/case/college-ozarks-v-biden/

QuoteNineteen states, multiple Christian colleges, and numerous advocacy groups have submitted friend-of-the-court briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court asking it to take the case of a Missouri Christian college required by the Biden administration to open its dormitories, including dorm rooms and shared shower spaces, to members of the opposite sex or face fines of up to six figures, punitive damages, and attorneys' fees.

Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys representing College of the Ozarks asked the high court to review a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit that concluded the Christian college cannot sue the Biden administration for seeking to force the school to violate its religious beliefs.
A brief led by the state of Missouri and joined by 18 other states explains that, "this case involves an expansion of federal power and the federal government's outright failure to address, let alone balance, antidiscrimination policy and interests with religious beliefs. The Amici States enforce antidiscrimination statutes while at the same time 'ensur[ing] that religious organizations and persons are given proper protection as they seek to teach the principles that are so fulfilling and so central to their lives and faiths.'""The government directive here compels College of the Ozarks to change its dorm policies and violate its sincerely held religious conscience.

Quote"The Arizona SAA did not have any substantiated findings based on our review of Grand Canyon University," SAA's letter to GCU in March stated. "There are no findings impacting the continued approval of Grand Canyon University at this time. There are no follow-up actions required by Grand Canyon University at this time."

Mueller's comments come as DOE Secretary Miguel Cardona vowed to shut down the school for being "a predatory for-profit school" during a House Appropriations Committee hearing about cracking down on GCU and other universities like it last week.

The DOE claims that GCU "lied to students" and "falsely advertised" the cost to complete a doctoral program, which the GCU rejects. In higher education, doctoral programs that include dissertations rarely have a fixed cost because the number of continuation courses varies for each individual student, a GCU spokesperson said in response.
