One of my guilty pleasures is Moonshiners: Master Distiller. Last night they were making "mountain brandy". The competitors were a moonshiner from West Virginia who was missing his top teeth, a guy from a legal distillery in California, and a moonshiner from Indiana. The guy from Indiana won. The judges said the West Virginia guy would have won but the cinnamon he used was not the dollar store cinnamon he was used to but the real thing so it was a lot stronger and over powered the other flavors. I felt sorry for the guy. You could see he was tearing up as he was talking about what a great experience it was.

Can't let this topic die.

I'm enjoying "Raised By Wolves" on HBO Max. It's SciFi for those of you who care.

Watch the movie Boss Level on Hulu. It's a hoot.

Like a Groundhog Day/John Wick mashup.

I just saw the first episode of 'Mare of Easttown' on HBO last night.
It looks pretty good so far.
Kate Winslet (Titanic) plays a small-town police detective with a very complicated life trying to solve a cold-case disappearance of a teenage girl.

The series is filmed on several locations in the suburbs around Philadelphia that really capture the feeling of a small Pennsylvania town.
It's very authentic, and very well done.

Saw it also, Jim. OKish. Worth another view next episode. I suspect it will continue to get better. The 1st episode was a bit slow by design.

Read where Kate Winslet doing the difficult Philly accent. Most actors never bother in other shows/movies since it is so hard to do.

Funny you mention that, because being a native Pennsylvanian, I thought her accent sounded more Pittsburgh / Johnstown than Philly!

Yeah, they did do quite a bit of character building in the first episode which did make it slow developing, but as I said earlier the main character has a very complicated life!

The end of the first episode does make you think it will get better for sure.

Aside from a good story, Kate has a few more years behind her from her 'Titanic' days, but she's still smokin' hawt in my book!

OMG...people will talk about ANYTHING on social media these days!

I was just reading a juicy conspiracy theory about why the main character in 'Mare of Easttown' prefers to drink Rolling Rock from way out near Pittsburgh instead of Yuengling which is brewed right up the road from the Philly suburbs where the story takes place.

Apparently the dominant theory is that Dick Yuengling was a Trump supporter whose business should be canceled.   :p

Yeah...that's a real conversation... :w00t:

On a side note, I have been enjoying quite a few older episodes of 'Forged in Fire' that I never saw before.
I'm thinking that bladesmiths and machinists have a strange kinship, because I think I would be right at home working with some of those guys!

I just picked up that old 80's series 'Shogun'.  I haven't watched it yet. I'm wondering if it holds up after all of these years.

Wow, blast from the past there. I remember that sales of Saki went through the roof. Everyone sat around the TV eating Chinese take-out, drinking warm rice wine and saying "comchi wa" and "madigato"
