I've been working on an impeller for the past several months.
It starts as a 5000 pound forging.
Hundreds of  hours of programming, 4 lathe ops and 3 mill ops, about 200 hours of machine time later it's a 1300 pound impeller with vanes a foot high.
Got it built and it passed the CMM inspection with flying colors
Then is goes on a lathe, a top cap is installed, indicated in, bolted down with 17 bolts and Lock Tight.
Then it's line drilled and reamed and 3 dowel pins are freeze fit into the holes to prevent movement.
Once that's done, a precision Ø and o-ring groove is machined. Now it's an enclosed impeller.
They scrapped it Saturday afternoon.   :crybaby:
A 0+/-.002 diameter is -.008"
The part is late and the customer is screaming bloody murder.
We promised them it would be on the truck by noon.

We may take it apart and build a new top cap.
It will be tricky though.

Our Manufacturing Manager died unexpectedly about 4 weeks ago at the age of 60.
He left behind a huge pair of boots to fill and we've been really struggling.
This is just one is a string on bad days lately.

Had you listened to Titan you could have gotten that 200 hours of machine time down to 14 minutes!  :fun:

Thankfully your job was done right and you shouldn't need to do much extra work for it. Sucks for the business and morale however.

Yeah.. that just kicked the fire right out of me early this morning
It happened Saturday.
I'm glad they didn't tell me then as it would have ruined my weekend.

Yup.. and the older you get, the easier it is to break things and the longer they take to heal.
