As far as I know, they've never limited criticism on EMC, and this is a smaller crowd, so I don't think it's any worse?

Back in the X7 days I had Dave Boucher phone me and ask me to tell everyone, that "they were doing their best".

I feel I can use my full vocabulary on this forum, fucking thanks!!!!
I have to tone it down a bit on EMC.
The official forum might explode if I verbalized it the way it happens in my head.

We did that on EMC as well. They had a months long thread about bugs.

I don't know how things will work out now that they've been "taken over" but I commend them for allowing the criticisms in the past.

I'm not going to disagree with that.  As a TopSolid user, get better MC.

They serve different markets and need.

TS would never work in my place of employment

Negative

Too many moving parts, too many users of varying skills, no need for the extra bells & whistles.  We're a real design house already.

We're really an engineering firm that machines.

John, I'm curious to hear what you folks use for CAD over there. (Not trying to persuade/sell you anything-honest!)

Cheers, Brian

Brian

As a TopSolid user but not a MC user, I'm curious to know what folks find lacking about MC-does it have more to do with the CAD side of things than CAM?

Besides @neurosis, @Zoffen and @YoDoug are there any other folks here who have used both programs?

@neurosis : do I understand correctly that you're still using TS, but for CAD only (after the PP stuff you'd mentioned)?

Yes, we use it mostly for CAD at this point.

Occasionally I'll program a part in it but usually something that is a 1 off or tooling.

@Brian

We have over 25 seats of Solidworks.

And need more

Yes, I first got SWX in '98 or '99, and still keep my license current (nearly all of my customers use it, and several find it convenient that I can work with their native data). Anymore, I really don't use it for much more than quicky reviewing files with the customers, however. I've come close to dropping maintenance the last couple of years.

I'm guessing you folks also have SWX? Am I right that many folks here are using SWX for CAD before CAM in MC?
