It wouldn't have been, if he'd behaved like a civilized human. But men who rob, choke, and point guns at women rarely qualify as civilized humans.

And none of that absolves the office of her responsibility in the situation. She fucked up. But lets be honest, her fuck up was in all likelihood a failure in training, NOT a result of racism.  And thanks to the "defund the police" movement, expect more such fuckups as training budgets will be among the first cuts.

From the link I posted above
His arrest warrant was due to similar behavior
The police were called because he was waving a gun
They attempted to arrest him for brandishing an unlicensed firearm.
He ran, they caught him and charged him for the firearm and resisting arrest.
He failed to appear in court and an arrest warrant was issued.
When he was pulled over for the expired tags he fought with police, tried to run and was shot.
He did not deserve to be shot, but he was solely responsible for the circumstances that lead up to it.
The only bright spot in this mess is that his girl friend in the passengers seat was not hit by gunfire
She was hurt when the young man passed out from blood loss and crashed the car though.

There are very few better martyrs to choose from.

Quote from: CNCAppsJames post_id=9562 time=1618366466 user_id=62I see the Monday morning Quarterbacks that have never even so much as gone on a ride along are out in force today. That's encouraging. I was beginning to think they were going to actually wait to make a judgement. Thank goodness that'll never happen.

No it's not. It's also not a racial murder because he was black.

oh no, it never is

Quote from: neurosis post_id=9558 time=1618359427 user_id=49I can see how it can happen too. That doesn't mean that she gets a free pass.  She obviously fucked up and knew it as soon as she fired the shot.  If you read what I said - "This was either a horrible lack of training or she just isn't cut out for that job." I'm not sure if we are agreeing there?

Out of curiosity, who do you put the blame on for this "accident"?

I think she bears some blame, but I think it was an honest mistake.  This has apparently happened nine times in the last 20 years across the country.  The last guy who did this got two years, and said it could happen to anyone.  So I think it's a problem inherent in carrying the pistol and taser at the same time, with similar form factors, and without a whole lot of practice in selecting the correct one for the situation.  So equal parts personal responsibility, training, and engineering.  Fix the latter two and the first becomes much easier.  Just like taping something over the tool release button on your control to prevent accidentally dropping your probe.

And no, I don't think race was a factor here.

Not likely she fires her weapon on purpose with other officers right there beside young man.

If you watch the video, she was screaming "taser taser taser !!!" as she was trained to do
After her pistol went off and the mortally wounded kid was driving off she
said
"Oh shit, I shot him"
If she was faking that she has a great career in Hollywood

I'm wondering what the rookie in training is thinking about all of this.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Bad time to be a cop.

The cop has been arrested and will be charged with manslaughter
It wouldn't surprise me to see the entire police force walk off the job

The timing of this is interesting to how it could affect the Derek Chauvin trial. They are supposed to have closing arguments next week. The jury was only partially sequestered so they have surely heard of the Daunte Wright shooting. I wonder if this will affect any of the jurors opinions.

I've been reading through a few different media outlets user comments.  It's crazy to me that people don't see (or at least want to admit) that there is nuance to every individual case like this. It's either he was shot because he was a black man, or he was shot because he was a POS criminal who resisted arrest.

One side is definitely louder than the other and that's going to be very unfortunate for both the Chauvin case and this one.

Middle ground and common sense no longer exists on anything. Choose a side and the other side hates you for it. Civil War is inching closer.
