Jimmy Carter... probably one of our more intelligent presidents in history... was a puss. His decision to stop development of the neutron bomb was cowardice pure and simple.

Operation Eagle Claw; the disaster of an op happened for a variety of reasons, many of which were structural and/or logistical deficiencies in our military at the time and therefore not entirely his fault, but, he knew the military and it's capabilities and should have known likelihood of failure was high because of said deficiencies AND Iran's environmental challenges. Today our military could pull off an operation of this scale successfully in part because of lessons learned and the technological advances in training and logistics.
