Posession of drugs in almost ANY country gets you jail time. DUH.

She does identify as the husband in her marriage, and she does dress as a man, so I doubt she would be offended if someone referred to her as a dude. In fact, Brittney's wife refers to her as 'he' and 'him' on her Instagram, so yeah...

My oldest son is a Los Angeles County Sherriff Deputy. He's at LA County Men's Central Jail... the stories he and his friends tell... pretty crazy. I DEFINTELY do not want to be there.

I don't know anything about Russian law, but I will say the sentence seems awfully harsh and fully politically motivated. However, with the recent relations between the USA and Russia, I would expect they would go for maximums.

The lesson in this mess that I pointed out to my kids is you need to understand that the full sentence for any crime you choose to commit could thrown at you even if it is rarely ever handed down. Most laws for simple stuff that usually ends in probation or a small fine have verbiage that reads "up to x years in prison". most simple marijuana possession laws have a maximum of real prison time.

She used her celebrity status to express her opinion about the U.S. by boycotting the National Anthem, then she turns around and wants the country she obviously hates to bail her out of a situation that is 100% her own doing.

She is free to express her political opinions, and so am I.
If you think that's harsh, then that's your opinion.

Her own arrogance is what landed her in this situation, so it's hard to feel sorry for her.

Yes, the consequences in her case are steep, but anyone with more than two functioning brain cells knows that there are some countries that have literally a 'zero tolerance' policy when it comes to moving drugs across their borders.

So she is either stupid, or arrogant, and I don't think she is stupid.

I think that he meant that as a general statement not directed at anyone in particular. 

Most people know or should at a minimum, assume, that if you get caught smuggling drugs in to Russia right now you're going to be f-d.

She didn't just start playing ball there yesterday. She's been playing there for around 5 years so you would assume that she was well aware of what she was doing and what risk she was taking.

If it was some joe blow, this wouldn't even be a story.

Actually, as an international traveler myself, I have ZERO sympathies for fellow travelers that carry substances abroad that could get them incarcerated should they be caught with them. It has NOTHING to do with sexual identity or politics and EVERYTHING to do with paying a price for stupidity. She knew damn well deep down that stuff was illegal... it's posted in like 50 languages in EVERY international airport on the planet except maybe Amsterdam... and if she didn't know...well, then she deserves another few years for being that stupid.

Like James said, anyone who has ever traveled internationally has to be completely oblivious to the huge warning signs posted in multiple languages in airports all over the world about drug possession.

You are painting her as the victim here without even acknowledging that SHE is the person who screwed up.  Yes, everything has a political angle, and yes, Russia enjoys nothing more than embarrassing U.S. citizens who violate their laws, but to my original point, if Brittney wasn't so arrogant as to think the laws don't apply to her, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

I also stand by my statement that is her own arrogance that put her where she is today.
