What does "sacred" mean to you?

More Importantly....

What does it mean to you.

A Chemical Imbalance??

Hormones??

Testosterone??

If we follow the directive of your speech.

Then the guy who just horribly murdered his wife and children was not guilty.

It was an Imbalance of chemicals.

How about the entire body of scientific literature?  I've been following scientific literature since I was a little kid; you might have some catching up to do.  But for starters, the body consists entirely of subatomic particles, in an arrangement and a pattern of motion. There is no such thing as a "soul"; there is no part of the body that, when removed, makes it not be a living being.  The soul cannot be in the left half of your brain, because we can cut out the entire left half of your brain and still have you function, though with reduced capacity.  The soul cannot be in the right half of your brain for the same reason.  In theory, we could take both halves of your brain and put them in different bodies, and now have two people, each with reduced capacity.  If you believe in a soul, where would the soul go?

What "you" are, is a pattern, as am I.  Replicate that pattern, and you've replicated the person.  Significantly alter that pattern, and you no longer have that person.

White widow possibly but with a hint of Koosh.

Quote from: Newbeeee™ on November 04, 2022, 03:49 PMReplicate the pattern and you have a clone - this is difficult to believe because what makes us me you individuals, is surely our memory and how do you replicate that?
Also...traits? Not just humans but animals etc.
What makes a specific breed of dog or a parrot species have the exact same mannerisms?

Grow a new person from the same genetics, and you have a clone.  But that person will be a different pattern; they grew at a different time, in a different environment, had different interactions with different people, etc.  Even being exposed to a different set of random radiation (there is constant background radiation) could be enough to produce a different result.  So in a practical sense, making an exact copy is impossible.  But then you're different today than you were yesterday.  I don't think it's too far fetched to say that eventually the technology will exist to replicate a person more closely than the day-to-day difference.

Your memories are encoded in the pattern of neurons and synapses, and the cell mechanics within them.  Here's an experiment on teaching a small clump of cells to play Pong:

As far as heritable behaviors, genetics control (mostly) the growth of all structures in the body, including the brain.  Individuals with more similar brain structures are more likely to have similar behaviors.  But on top of that, animals like birds often teach their children, and even adults tend to learn from each other.

Ok.....

Talkin bout cells.

You brought up animals.

Why the diff??

Crocs, Birds, Humans, mammals, amphibians.

Just Chemicals??

Life would not take a left turn as evidenced by evolution.

Clone , Clone, Clone.

Chicken or the Egg??

Apparently, you have not heard John Lennons "Imagine"

Please explain this.

A turtle lays eggs on the dunes of a beach.

The eggs hatch and immediately head to the Ocean.

You don't see them heading to the airport or The Highway.

How do they know??

Chemicals?? They were just a clump of cells inside a shell?

Instincts? That would require Thought ...No??
