6/3=2 is that a clever way of saying 2nd grade again. 😛

After going through 2nd grade the engineers at the limestone mine demanded better teachers for their children. Ten 3rd grade students were transferred to the sixth grade along with other transfers so I called that grade sixth/third. My dad then started teaching me math and science after school. My friend's dad did the same and we started a competition as to who could learn more. By the middle of the year our teacher started allowing both of us to help the sixth graders with their math.

I wish someone EFFECTIVE would have helped me with math. In ALL my years of mandated school (includes two years in 8th grade), I had exactly 1 math teacher that was effective in teaching me anything; my 9th gradde math teacher. He was also the Drafting teacher and one of my dad's bar buddies. The rest of the teachers... not completely worthless, but damn close.

My ninth grade math teacher was good but this was Algebra and I had that class in eighth grade. I was in a Michigan public school and they would not allow any credits from my ninth grade Christian school because the gymnasium was too small and the library was too small. I skipped 90% of my classes and at the beginning when I showed up the teacher would say "Since Tim blessed us with his attendance we'll have a quiz today" or something similar. I would ace the quizzes and after a while he quit doing it. I might have attended 10 classes that semester and received an A- on my report card. I think he knew something was wrong.

The ONLY math classes I didn't get D's or F's in was 9th grade and when I went to Community College and took Shop Math. 9th grade IIRC I got a C and in Shop Math as adult 24/25 year old, I got a B.

In 9th grade I did Drafting for Math. I spent that year solving for unknown dimensions. Looking back, it was some basic algebra, some geometry, and some trigonometry. I was capable, the teachers were just incapable of teaching me. Of course I was drug addled from 5th grade into near the tail end of my 10th grade year in High School so there's that :coffee: ... But, Mr. Hildago (9th Grade Drafting Teacher) WAS able to teach me...

That usually is not good for study habits. 🤪

When I took my tenth grade (technically ninth grade) IQ test I was doing cocaine, Dexedrine and Colombian red bud and still scored 154.

The assistant principle pulled me out of class maybe a month later to let me know my IQ score in which he stated that he wasn't allowed to tell me but did because he was sure I would be quitting school. What he actually did was let me know that school or no school I would be able to survive nicely. I had no idea what "154" meant but I was pulled out of class to be told my score so after he gave me the "talk" and left I went in the classroom, grabbed my stuff and left school to go to the village library and find out. I found out that a score of 140 was "genius" level so I was 110% genius. I went back to school, cleaned out my locker and never went back.

154.. holy smokes. 8)

I took several, the lowest was 119 as I recall..., the highest was 128. Oddly enough... or maybe not so oddly, the 128 score was my admission day at rehab... I was high AF. Purple Indica... March 20-something 1987

The number one comment on my report cards from 1st through 12th... "he doesn't apply himself". No shit. Your classes suck!

So I heard.

Doesn't help when classes are boring AF. In my english classes... instead of paying attention to the class/teacher, I read... the dictionary. When I took the SAT... I scored 870 on the verbal section. 900 was perfect. My total SAT score??? 910  The way I figure it, I probably got my name right... maybe. :coffee: I think you get 20 points for that.

This is probably why I enjoy reading through the FANUC parameter manuals.

I've always found sitting in a class hard. Unless it's engaging... I'm checking out mentally.

Right now I'm taking a UC Riverside class on "Design Think". They asked me to sit on the advisory board... I did't really think I had anything to offer because it's REALLY geared more towards software development, but some of our customers in the medical device world were listed as supporters of the program. Anyway... I figured to give effective feedback on the program, I should probably go through it. The content is interesting so that's helpful. The students are supposed to interact with each other... they don't much. From the outside looking in, it's the same shit I saw in high school... people give the answers they they think the professors want to hear... riddled with buzzwords. My evaluations are probably gonna be a little salty.

We shall see.

That wasn't close to what I could do. The coke was experimental at that time and was short lived. I couldn't justify $20.00 for a twenty minute buzz when 1 microdot for $2.00 was a 12 hour buzz.

This is something I can agree with you on, and I don't know if the 'new math' they teach now is any better or if it's just the application of teaching itself that was failing. Saw a lot of smart people struggle hard with math, only to do fine with it later in college
