I'm driving pretty much straight north from Wichita to Minot ND next week. Do you know what kind of weather I can expect along the way through Nebraska and South Dokota. I know it's supposed to be cold, like single digits and teens.

All I can tell you is that in the winter, no matter which direction you are facing in ND/SD, you will have a ball shrinking wind coming directly at you.

Ah, well. That's something I'm used to. It's been known to hit well below zero with a strong wind here. I'm a little rusty on heavy (for me) snow.

I have not spent much time in ND, but I can say in SD to watch out for drifting snow on the road. Even just a dusting of snow will drift several inches thick on the road. You hit one of those going 80 on the interstate it can mean trouble. If you see snow blowing across the road be careful.

Here's the current snow cover. The red dot is Minot. You'll be going through some nasty stuff especially if it's windy. Beware of closed roads as they will shut stuff down quickly if the wind picks up. Snow drifts and icy roads build quickly around there.

You heading to the oil fields to start a new career?  :fun:

Son in law just got stationed there after 8 years in Alaska. I'm driving up for Thanksgiving. Flying to Minot was going to be a mess.

Pack for just in case. Food water, Blankets.

Cell phone coverage is seldom reliable, watch your gas gauge.

It's a loooong way to anywhere. and Chinook winds run just below hurricane force and are relentless.

In the Seventies I had a friend that was stationed at Minot. His main job was to guard a tool shed on most nights.

Quote from: YoDoug on November 14, 2022, 07:09 AMI wouldn't expect the police or DA to back you up if you use a gun to protect yourself against a group of carjackers here.

There actually seems to be a decent track record of not charging the defender.  Check out the MN incidents here:
