I think like anything else that swims in the ocean or hides in the woods solid numbers are hard to get...that said, hwoever many there are remaining, it's evidently not a a large number at all.

That's a lot of revenue to lose if environmental groups are wrong.

It is but it's a sad thing to lose if they're even close to right.

The larger problem is no one really wants to even try to find a balance....enviromental groups just want to stop all fishing, and the fishermen all want to keep fishing as they have been on these eastern shores, for a couple of centruries.

No one really wants to look for the middle ground...and honestly, we may lose the whales and we may lose the fisheries.

But those rat bastard environmentalist hypocrites WILL put a wind farm in their habitat which WILL be far more devastating to the whale than whatever lobster catching is goign on.

Last I heard Canada could do whatever TF they want and OUR fishermen are payin the freight on that bullshit.

And the Enviro-Nazis are countining 1 dead whale as 1.5 or some other number that isn;t the one they found. What kind of fuckery is this? More Common Core math?

Oh, I know and understand why....the realities though, it's almost certainly not sustainable "as is" for too much longer....once that point is reached, they won't have the option of making some kind of deal any longer. They are going to be filing bankruptcy and finding a different way to live.

It is a reality that is very close on the horizon, between those kinds of regulations and fisheries being overfished, change is coming.

Tbey closed the crab fishing grounds for red king crab and most snow crab in the bering sea. Populations have dropped something like 80 to 90% in the last few years and they don't know why.

Well, they *suspect* that they know why.

Gotta toughen all of you up. Last night it was -5C & I was running a snowblower. In shorts. You only start getting chilly when you start forming clumps of snow on your leg hairs.

One of the problems is we put restrictions on our fishermen but other countries don't have to abide by those same restrictions. It needs to be across the board.
