What was the battery level when he dropped you off?

Oh about 50 percent. 🤪

That i don't know. It was about 10:30 at night so I would think pretty low.  He does it every night so it's ready to go in the morning. He said a fast charger runs about $75000. He plans to get the next one down which will take 6 to 8 hours to charge.

I learned a lot in that 15 minute ride,   :)

Likely a Supercharger (or similar), they require 480volt 3 phase, which most homes don't have access to anyway.

Yes.. a guy who worked here bought a Tesla and an upgraded charger for his house
The power company would not let him install it
They said his neighborhood had 3 already and the local grid could not support a 4th

Del.

They should have went with the Flux Capacitor. Only $54 at Walmart.

240V 60amp single phase will charge a 90Kwh battery in 6-8 hours. No need for higher voltage three phase if the goal is overnight charging.

Lithium iron phosphate 'LFP' should prove double the charge cycles of L-ion batteries, so if you can get LFP, do it

Agreed, but that is not what I was answering. A charger running off 240 single phase should not cost anywhere near $75k like was quoted.

Yeah I've heard a few of those stories.

I chuckle when we go up north for a family vacation and my brother law drives his Tesla, no super or fast chargers anywhere nearby. He has to plug in to the cabin 120V outlet. 3 days later it's finally charged enough to get home.

I understand, but Mowens said the driver said he needs to charge overnight in 6-8 hours. With 6-8 hours of time you don't need a supercharger @ $75k.

So we're on the same page? Good!

I never said he NEEDED a supercharger, Mowens said 75k for what the driver wanted, Del asked "75k for a charger?" I said "probably for a supercharger". Never once did I say he NEEDED a supercharger.

I would be curious as to the details of that. Most homes have 100-200 amps of power available with bigger houses going up to 400 amps. Depending on what the water heater, dryer, and home heat most homes have enough incoming power to support a 50 amp EV plug. They even make reasonable cost smart switching chargers that will share an outlet with a dryer or other appliance and switch off car charging while the appliance is in use. When I was considering buying a Model 3 I looked into a NeoCharger switcher. It would switch between my dryer and the Tesla charger and charge the car full overnight if the dryer wasn't being run all night.
