Nothing we can do

QuotePresident Biden has drawn backlash for providing a pessimistic view of his administration's ability to combat the coronavirus pandemic in the near future.

Biden's campaign featured harsh criticisms of former President Trump's approach to COVID-19, and in his first speech as president-elect he said his administration's work "begins with getting COVID under control." On Friday, however, he indicated that the trajectory of the pandemic can't be changed in the coming months, no matter what Americans do.

Point being, it isn't dropping like a rock if the numbers are pretty similar to the last time we discussed this.

Indiana is reporting 2,200 positives today, 2,500 yesterday, 3,100 the day before. The average at this point is about 2,900. That's down from a peak daily average of 6,900 in early December and a peak day of 8,400 around the same time. The positivity rate is dropping too, so it's not just fewer tests.

Daily deaths have fallen from a peak average of 84 in December to 33 today.

There are 31.2% of ICU beds available. Total COVID hospital patients are at about 2,000 today compared to about 3,500 in late November.

Yes, we've seen improvement since the peek; the month-long trend is pointing down.  No, the numbers are not falling like a rock.  Last we talked about this, Indiana was at 40 deaths per day, now we have 51 for the most recent day the data is available.  That increase could be considered within the limits of statistical noise, but the seven day trend is pointing up.

You've said several times "zero deaths yesterday!" when in fact once the numbers are available a couple days later, those days did indeed have several deaths.

Haha!! My wifes best friend (majorleague TDS BTW) is a secretary of an elementary school in bumbf*ck Minnesota. She got pushed to the front of the line "because she covers for the school nurse when she goes on lunch"

She got hers before my wife was allowed to, and my wife has spent the last 6 weeks GIVING THE VACCINE!!!

I've said no such thing.

We have went from a peak of 7000 positives a day down to 2000. Peak deaths from 80 down to 30. If you don't like my description of such as "dropping like a rock", that's fine. But the numbers are the numbers. And they were achieved in state that is nearly 100% open for business.

Maybe not a straight drop like a rock, but pretty darn close.  Today's deaths 1/22 - 1/24 is 12.
