These idiots.... how have these mouth breathers not managed to die yet? Clearly we have WAY too many warning labels.

Here is a study published in a journal called Science Climate Change (so, I mean, you already know how this study is going to look, right)

QuoteOn 15 January 2022, the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai (HTHH) eruption injected 146 MtH2O and 0.42 MtSO2 into the stratosphere. This large water vapour perturbation means that HTHH will probably increase the net radiative forcing, unusual for a large volcanic eruption, increasing the chance of the global surface temperature anomaly temporarily exceeding 1.5 °C over the coming decade. Here we estimate the radiative response to the HTHH eruption and derive the increased risk that the global mean surface temperature anomaly shortly exceeds 1.5 °C following the eruption. We show that HTHH has a tangible impact of the chance of imminent 1.5 °C exceedance (increasing the chance of at least one of the next 5 years exceeding 1.5 °C by 7%), but the level of climate policy ambition, particularly the mitigation of short-lived climate pollutants, dominates the 1.5 °C exceedance outlook over decadal timescales.

just for a summary. The volcano erupted water vapor that will increase temps by 1.5celsius over the next 5 years, but climate pollution is the dominant outlook over the larger time scale. that actually sounds like a fair study right? Even a little surprisingly fair!

Here is the Headline and story on The Hill:
https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/4149620-climate-change-is-driving-higher-temperatures-not-a-volcanic-eruption/

QuoteClimate change is the major driver of this year's extreme temperatures, not the eruption last year of an underwater volcano near Tonga in the Pacific Ocean, scientists tell The Hill.

While the eruption of the volcano may be an aggravating factor, the scientists say it is not having the impact attributed to it by conservative commentators who have downplayed the role of climate change.

Scientists told The Hill the eruption should not be used to undercut the influence of climate change on this year's heat waves.

another article from The Conversation: 4 factors all coming together to form a hot month. El Nino which was predicted after 3 years of La Nina(which was not expected), Solar Flares right on schedule, and the Tonga Eruption.
https://theconversation.com/july-was-earths-hottest-month-on-record-4-factors-driving-2023s-extreme-heat-and-climate-disasters-209975

QuoteHowever, the extremes this year are sharper than anthropogenic global warming alone would be expected to cause. July was Earth's hottest month on record by a large margin, with average global temperatures more than half a degree Fahrenheit (a third of a degree Celsius) above the previous record, set in 2019, according to the Europe Union's earth observation program. Human activities have been increasing temperatures gradually, at an average of about 0.2 F (0.1 C) per decade.

Three additional natural factors are also helping drive up global temperatures and fuel disasters this year: El Niño, solar fluctuations and a massive underwater volcanic eruption.
Unfortunately, these factors are combining in a way that is exacerbating global warming. Still worse, we can expect unusually high temperatures to continue through at least 2025, which means even more extreme weather in the near future

HB is rather calm compared to some of the better places in SoCal but if you get a good southwest swell you can get some good surf.

Trestles and San Onofre were my favorite SoCal spots, and Salt Creek from time to time. Rincon was my favorite Central Cal spot. Never hit Mavericks. WAY too big for me.
