one was an establishment supported and bona fide insurrection aimed at fulfilling a prophecy of 'fascism' on the other side, which failed.
 The other was establishment supported authoritarian takeover of a constitutional process, and subsequent authoritarian weponization of gov't notably against those with the wrong political opinions.

Hope its obvious that while we bicker red vs blue, in all these recent instances, Authoritarian Democrats (in the permanent gov't class) are the ones writing the script and "shaking the jar"

Both sides are guilty of it and they both make themselves look bad when they do it.

To frame the question a different way, would you, as a conservative, jump through hoops to rationalize the chop zone in the same way you do the Jan 6th "riot".

I guess, I'm not explaining myself well. I thought the guys who pulled off Jan6th were idiots. And if they go to jail for that so be it. I also thought the rioters in Seattle, Portland, St Louis, and Minnesota were idiots and should go to jail for it.  My problem with these 2 scenarios, is that republican leaders are being held responsible for Jan6th. but dem leaders are not being held to the same accountability for what happened in 2020. Dem leaders called for continued protests. Trump called for protests. I'm not aware of either side telling someone to be violent. In the Dems case if they said anything discouraging violence. the media used that to prove they are not leading the violence. In Trumps case if he said protest peacefully, he is saying it for plausible deniability. It's ridiculous but the only reason it is possible is because of the 4 branches of the Democratic party. The politicians, the media, the Universities, and the corporate elites.
